little monsters saying "gaga, not madonna" are really something else. madonna went to NY with just pocket change and was poor. she ate out of garbage cans and had just one tiny little room that just had space for one basic bed. that's it. she didnt even have a shower (janice dickinson said when they saw M going to clubs to promote herself that it was really noticable , if you see what i mean). she survived on popcorn.her dance teacher was so worried for her that she made sure Madonna had a job somewhere. this is the truth. watch "madonna rising" where she goes to her old apartments in the 90s. she was poor for YEARS. and before NY she also did all the housework and after that had to go to her grandparents and help in the summer. Madonna and the siblings were not allowed to have a lot of fun, they had to work. madonna is the oldest daughter so she had to take care of the family or at least help her stepmom. they were with 8 chlildren at home. typical middle class family. and madonna's father didnt support anything

She should've listened to her in the first place. I'm sure she had good intentions, but how did that work out for Lupe Lo? She's probably kicking herself in the face everyday.

are people who say "gaga" trolling or are they that delusional?
she went to some of the most expensive schools (and kindergarten, high school, AND college)from the US. the hilton sisters went there and her father was always very wealthy. they're from some of the wealthiest parts in NY if im not mistaken. upper class. even the apartment she got to rent from her father looks luxurious for NY standards (where just a basic room or studio costs $1500-2000)

Shakira grew up in Barranquilla, Colombia where she witnessed children sniffing glue to suppress their hunger. She was 1 of 9 children in her family - her family went bankrupt & lost their home so she had to temporarily move to Los Angeles with her mother to her aunts house while her father tried to get the family back on their feet. She moved back to Colombia & eventually "ran into" a Sony (which back then was CBS) executive at a hotel in Bogotá, Colombia (she knew he was staying there & ran into him on purpose) - he heard her sing & immediately set up an audition with Sony. She was then signed to the label at age 13 (having already written her own music + lyrics) and released 2 unsuccessful albums (Magia & Peligro) before finally becoming huge throughout Latin America. She then learned English on her own (through music, poetry & dictonaries/thesauruses) in order to continue writing her own music + lyrics and eventually became the global artist that she is today.
She literally had everything working against her (coming from a poor, non-English speaking country, from a bankrupt family, being told her voice was not good enough, etc.) and managed to become one of the most global artists of our generation.
I would also include Rihanna as another artist that came from nothing to becoming a household name (with a ton of obstacles working against her).

She didn't. Rih found fame more quickly than the others, however she was not as privileged.

Didn't Madonna have like housekeepers and what-not as a kid? From what I understand, she's like J. Lo and Gaga; she wasn't poor until she decided to go leave her wealth and pursue a career in the arts. It's a lot different than say a Britney Spears type who was supporting their family before they could attend elementary school
Of course, Madonna ran in to some awful situations on her way up, but still.

JLo came from a working class background she didn't grow up with nice things she said she only got new shoes when the pair she had literally had holes in her and her 2 sisters all shared a bed, she got to were she is today of her own back with no family support she went hungry and homeless in the making, everything she's got in career she made happen. That's why her careers based on rags to riches story even Beyonce said she loves Jennifers rags to riches story
Britney had a regular child hood her parents took her to Auditions etc she had support and parents willing to sacrifice to help her get her foot in the door.
Dolly Parton was absolutely dirt poor to she's the definition of going from literally nothing to everything she had a vegetable as a doll and she's always remind humble

Madonna's family had one nanny/housekeeper, who later married her father. There were five kids, all under the age of ten, when her mother died and her father had to work... what did you expect them to do?
They weren't poor, but they weren't wealthy. Madonna's described them as lower-middle class, or working class with middle class aspirations at least.
