They can give false impressions based off of how much of an acquired taste a song is like "Hey Ya" was predicted to be a super hit straight from the start, but it got poor results with audience tests at major radio stations...so an alternative infiltration strategy had to be selected. And the rest is history

I can't answer the last question because Gaga is always unpredictable but I can say my favorite song that I've heard is very stripped down and vocally focused.

It's not so much a predictor as much as it is an evaluator--how worthy/infectious a song is.
