It's not weird; it's called the false consensus effect, and everyone -- regardless of where they're from -- suffers from it.

The only reason other countries aren't quite as guilty of it in this context is because American culture is so readily displayed and distributed globally.

It's much harder for someone from the UK to be ignorant of many aspects of American life because it's broadcasted via news, movies, music, pop culture, etc.

America isn't the only country whose culture people from other countries are aware of Saying a person from the UK is aware of aspects of American life is irrelevant to the point I was making. I wasn't suggesting that Americans should know details about other cultures - just that they should know that other cultures actually exist. People from the England may not know details of the culture in Mauritius for example, but they aren't going to assume that everything that happens there happens the same way it does in England.

Again, the only reason non-Americans are better at this is because they're constantly exposed to s culture different from their own.
