That's horrible. And your friend has my condolences, but all sorts of triggers can set people off and remind them of a traumatic life experience. It dosen't even have to be as explicit or as obvious as something like a rather graphic pop video. It could literally be anything.

Ultimately I don't anyone should have to compromise on their artistic vision with fear of offending a certain group of people. I'd need to see the full video and understand it's context before I actually make a judgement as to whether or not it actually "condones" rape. But ultimately I don't think Lady Gaga would create such a video intentionally, maybe she felt like it could be misconstrued that way and that's why DWUW never saw the light of day... until now.

I love Lady Gaga. 'Just Dance' will always be one of my favourite songs of all time. The HCCR remix of 'Just Dance' and the Jody Den Broeder remix of 'Poker Face' are in my top 5 most played songs in iTunes. I'm sick of being labeled a "hater" by monsters for criticising her when she does something wrong. So many stans acknowledge that her career is in a decline, and that the GP aren't really here for her anymore, but whenever people contribute their opinions on what the reasons for this decline are, her stans seem to be like "oh well you're a hater, you're just looking for reasons to bash her." No. I'm not. This video is wrong. It's going to get leaked and the GP are going to be angry. It's going to damage her brand image and reputation even more. There's a reason she planned on never releasing it. I actually admire her greatly for changing her mind. I'm really proud of her for doing the right thing and I'm really sorry that it's going to get leaked because her change of mind shows that she thought about it and realised it shouldn't be released.

So because there are minor, insignificant triggers out there that remind people of their rape, we shouldn't bother to censor the more explicit/obvious ones? This makes no sense.

A certain group of people? A certain group of people? Yes, those pesky rape victims are too sensitive...? That's a horrible thing to say. Someone's artistic vision should not offend rape victims. Period. And of course Lady Gaga doesn't condone rape. She's a good person. But there's a difference between condoning it and alluding to it to be edgy, whether it was intentional or misinterpreted. There's a difference between intention and interpretation. What her intentions were won't matter to the GP. What will matter is how it's perceived by the GP.
