I'm re-watching Buffy on Netflix and the first seasons feel VERY outdated. Some of the story lines are so.. weird/stupid. Like the one with the teacher who turns into a giant bug, or a coach who finds a formula to make his students better swimmers but accidentally turns them into sea monsters, etc..
My cousin & brother always ask why I watch a show like that, while they love Charmed, it never feels outdated even though it debuted a year after Buffy. It's our favorite show ever, it's just so much better and entertaining.

This. Early Buffy is very teen show outdated, but Charmed is always fresh and could take place today. That's why it gets amazing re-runs while Buffy rules.....comics, I guess?

Early Buffy episodes seem outdated because they're from 1996 and so many shows recycled their formula, stories and writing since then, including Charmed. And Charmed isn't fresh at all. It's just simple and easy to get into because it's a generic, basic version of Buffy the Vampire just like Smallville, Roswell, Supernatural, Vampire Diaries and so many other shows. Even Shonda Rimes has talked about copying from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
As for reruns, what are you talking about? Buffy the Vampire is still in syndication on dozens of networks including ABC Family, Oxygen, Logo and smaller channels like Chiller and Pivot because it's in high demand. It used to be MTV, FX and local Fox channels too.

This doesn't make any sense. Early seasons of Buffy feel outdated because the storylines/jokes/ets.. ARE outdated. A lot of shows that debuted in the 90s, like Charmed, still feel like they could've been released now (if the quality was better).

It does make sense. If so many other shows recycle the style, story and jokes from a show, it's going to become unoriginal and outdated. There was a joke about coming out as gay in season 2 of Buffy that was literally copied and pasted in other shows and movies.
And again, there's nothing fresh about Charmed. It's your typical Buffy lite show on the WB that the network tried to repeat so many times (Roswell, Smallville, Supernatural, etc.)

I just don't see the resemblance between the two shows. One was about a high school student fighting vampires with her friends. The other one about 3 sisters in their 20's juggling their social life/work and fighting demons.

You're comparing the superficial premise. I'm talking about the style, the stories, the writing. And Buffy the Vampire Slayer was always about balancing a normal life as a teenager (and then eventually a college student and then an adult) with her supernatural responsibilities. In fact, the first episodes were about wanting to avoid responsibility just like Charmed.

I grew up with both Buffy and Charmed, and I consider them to be my two favourite shows. But. Buffy is much better written, better acted, and has undoubtedly had much more impact. There isn't even any need to show receipts because it's one of the most iconic television shows of all time, and most probably the most iconic show of all time with a female lead. This year, Empire magazine, the biggest movie magazine in the world, placed Buffy as THE most popular female television character. The Body & Once More with Feeling alone are more iconic than Charmed. Sorry.
Not slating Charmed, because it's still a HUGE part of my life. I used to get my life when Phoebe turned into a kick ass martial artist diva.
Alyssa Milano is the reason why I had no idea if I was gay or not. She did things to my bodaaaaaaaaaaaay.

I don't know.
I liked Buffy when i was a little kid but few years ago i tried to rewatch it and.....not only it's dated but also very childish.I can't imagine someone watching it not for kiis and nostalgic reasons.
Charmed at least somewhat watchable.

In terms of quality not really. In terms of seasons probably because it was cheap to do so and Charmed had a steady audience.

Buffy is much more culturally relevant than Charmed, but Charmed is easier to get into if you aren't a fan and didn't watch it when it was airing. It just holds up better. Kind of like Digimon v Pokemon lol... Pokemon is undeniably more relevant but the rewatch value years later isn't as good as Digimon. Some things need the nostalgia glasses to watch

It looks like a different body shape when she does the kick.

Quality and talent aren't things you find in Charmed.
I still remember Alyssa's terrible acting.
