10. Christina Aguilera - Keeps Gettin' Better
Hoooooooooooooooold on!
A great song that was overshadowed by the power of Britney's ***. Amazing VMA performance. Incredibly dissapointing video.
09. Oasis - The Shock of the Lightning
I feel cold but I'm back in the fire
Why so high in the list? 'Cause it made me discover a band which I practically only knew for their classic "Wonderwall". The Shock of the Lighting, the first single of Dig Out Your Soul, introduced me to an amazing album and an amazing band which I had let pass by. Plus, this psychedelic, loud, raw, messy song, is the ****.
08. The Killers - Human
Let me know if your heart's still beating
Though The Killers may have released their worst album to date this year, it's still really good and some songs are still amazing. I guess they can't do anything wrong! This song marked the beggining of a new era with less guitar and more electronic sounds, and I love every minute of it. No wonder why Chris Martin called it the most perfect pop song of the year.
07. MGMT - Time to Pretend
I'll move to Paris, shoot some heroin and **** with the stars
Tadada dada da-da, tadada dada da-da. MGMT was one of the biggest revelations this year. This song is the epitome of hippieish greatness. I remember changing the lyrics to not say I would shoot some heroin. I would just sing "I'll move to Paris, eat a hamburger and **** with the stars". I also felt really identified with the part that goes "I'll miss..." it kinda described the whole situation
06. Gnarls Barkley - Run
Here it comes, say run!
One of the most underrated bands out there brought us this year a true anthem. What else could you expect from Gnarls other than an seizure-producing-video? This is their best song since "Crazy", the bitch that made them gain that One-Hit-Wonder status. However, as someone said once in ATRL, they're all about quality over quantity. And this **** is quality! Please appreciate it.
05. Alicia Keys - No One
You and me together, through the days and nights, i don't worry 'cause everything's gonna be alright
A 2007 song that sticked all through 2008. It never gets old, and her live performances only made it better. Plus, the fact that it was known here in Colombia and everybody was singing it helped a lot too. Amazing Alicia comeback, I had totally lost track of her after Fallin', but this.. this is what I call RnB perfection.
04. Britney Spears - Womanizer
Boy don't try to fro-o-ont, I know just what you a-a-are
Britney's new anthem is nothing but pop epicness. I remember stayin' up late just to hear it (the night she tricked us all and finally said she would release it the next week); and I remember waiting for the video as well. She didn't dissapoint --not counting live performances-- and she delivered a new signature song with a signature video that got sticked in my head for long. It's still there.
03. Estelle & Kanye West - American Boy
Who kill 'em all in the UK? Everybody's gonna say u, k?
Will.i.am's clean production, Estelle's stylish voice and Kanye's hard rap made this song pure perfection. It was my third most played song of the year as well, and I enjoyed it slowly, never overplayed it. The fact is, it's still in my playlist. It hasn't old and I hope it never does.
02. Timbaland & OneRepublic - Apologize
It's too late... (eh, eh, eh)
This 2007 hit managed to live long enough through 2008 to almost make it to the top of the list. The most amazing slow song of the year, with a great production by Timbaland and performance by OneRepublic. Great lyrics, catchy, and it will forever remain in our heads. I can see myself still singing it in 10 years. It is also my 2nd most played song ever in my iPod so you do the math. Oh, and Timbaland's moans add nothing but greatness to this tune.
01. Madonna, Justin Timberlake & Timbaland - 4 Minutes
Tic-tock Tic-tock Tic-tock
The most overplayed song of the year, the hit that brought Grannie back to the game! Catchy Timbaland and Justin sex-on-legs Timberlake join the world's biggest popstar to deliver the best single of the year. I couldn't get this song off my head for months and it quickly became my most heard song of all time in my iPod, with almost 300 plays! And the video was great too. I even downloaded the instrumental and enjoyed the epic sounds made by Timbaland. No complaints about this pop diamond. It does not get better than this.
