Most pro-gay athletes (past and present) don't support the boycott.
Protest Putin and his anti-gay regime; not athletes that have been training for over a decade for this moment. In many sports, this one Games is the only time they'll be at their best to compete.

Don't the Olympics provide big boosts for the host country's economy, though? I think that's one of the big reasons countries boycott Olympics when they don't agree with the host country, because they don't want to contribute to an unjust government's prosperity.
I'm not sure where I stand on this issue, because I see your side of the argument too... but I'm leaning more towards supporting a boycott. If I were a gay Olympian, I don't think I'd feel comfortable competing there.
I hope she still tours Russia though (and not just because they've been supporting all her songs from ARTPOP so much
), because she's right: it's an important place to spread her message.
