it has good songs
but overall it's just too much and it doesn't work at all
plus the image & era were a total disaster
overall it really hurt her as a commercial act and i don't personally think it was anything critically spectacular either
but regardless it was the album she wanted to make and i applaud that much
Some of the songs you outgrow as you get older. I was 17 when this album came out. I don't particularly listen to much of the album anymore. But Born This Way (the song) I still think is great.
She made the worst possible videos, even having high visual talent, that the music got totally obliterated which is sad because the album deserved '21' success or better. It's a great record.
out of all albums, i use 10 songs from BTW, 7 from TFM and 7 from TF only. (by use them i mean they are on heavy rotation in my ipod)
i dont get it why everyone expected an album full of hits cause rarely albums do that.. even 21 has bad songs
The whole era hurt her in terms of the gp's perspective of her.. Cemented in their mindset that Gaga favored too much of the gay community. But shes doing a not really great but good job in balancing both audiences this era. I hope she keeps it up. I know she will
Musically the album was great! The era was just not handled well.
I honestly wasn't checking Gaga's image during BTW era so I can't judge it but I really loved and still love the album. Although I've never understood the love for Heavy Metal Lover, I love songs like Judas, Bloody Mary, Scheise, The Edge of Glory, Bad Kids, You and I... I would say that it is her best or second best album after TFM (not including ARTPOP which seems amazing so far!)
There were some amazing songs on BTW like Judas, Scheiße, Bloody Mary and Heavy Metal Lover but at the same time there was that Express Yourself 2.0 mess and absolute trash like Bad Kids, Hair, Fashion Of His Love, Black Jesus + Amen Fashion, The Queen and You and I.
Her image and the fact that she was whoring herself out on every show every second was the major tun off though
