Marble Steps, Honey, Sensitive Subject Matter, and I Hold Her were like life-affirming songs for me growing up. (Marble Steps in particular.) They have such a special place to me that they likely won't be overtaken by any of her new material (but that's okay.)

I kinda understand that. Well, I just got to know those songs, hence I can only compare this description to how I feel about Kelly Clarkson's Breakaway. Apart from My December nothing Kelly has released since then ever felt that special, although I still love her music.
The songs you mentioned are so heartfelt So far I don't really have a favorite song, but Somebody is still stuck in my head
Of course American Girl is great, too, but it's just not that personal.

I'm really hoping Bonnie's interviews this era go into detail about more than just the past decade of her life. Cuz even at this point she has enough life-experience to make a really great Rolling Stone profile or E! True Hollywood Story. It's amazing what she's overcome.
I mean just read this article from 2004.... By 16 she was a drug-addict, expelled from high school, and in an affair with a much older man....

Yes, Bonnie McKee confesses, it was a total no-brainer dubbing her Reprise Records debut, Trouble. Because for most of her early teens, that’s exactly what this hard-partying truant was in: Trouble of the worst, most folks-frightening kind. Now 19, she still looks like quite the firecracker—lounging on a couch in her Burbank label offices in pink leather miniskirt, rainbow-hued tank top and gold lamé high heels, her hair dyed a striking shade of strawberry red. But she was so wild in those earlier days, she says, even her pet hamster of four years gnawed free from its cage and disappeared, just to get away from her. “And we’re still looking for his little body,” she frowns.
Was McKee—who started off all prim-and-proper in the Seattle Girls’ Choir—really that difficult? You have no idea, she murmurs. Raised by a new-age mom who taught transcendental meditation, she spiraled from choir and musical theatre straight into the rave scene by 13, where she regularly dropped acid and ecstasy, unbeknownst to her parents. Soon she was hooked on crystal meth and was plagued by the wickedly debilitating drug’s attendant paranoia. Naturally, her grades suffered, and she was booted out of high school in her freshman year. Her meth abuse continued.
“You hear all about cocaine and heroin, but nobody ever warns you about speed,” McKee shudders. “And the danger with speed is, you can live a perfectly normal life and still be a meth addict. Because after I got kicked out of school, I tried community college for a while, then an alternative school. And my grades were better than ever, my room was clean, I was really thin and active and stoked. So everybody thought everything was okay, and my parents had no clue—you just pretend to eat at dinner, wad it up in your napkin and throw it away.”
And it took even more drugs for McKee to shake her habit. Her speed-induced psychotic delusions called for anti-psychotic prescriptions, meds she weaned herself from over a year ago. McKee did just about everything underage, including getting three star tattoos on her right wrist and—at the tender age of 14—entering a yearlong relationship with a 30-year-old man. Trouble’s Madonna-ish techno-ballad “January” details that romance’s demise. By 16, McKee had inked an album deal and moved to Los Angeles to follow her dream.
But here’s the most remarkable aspect of this naïf’s topsy-turvy teendom: The Rob Cavallo-produced Trouble is a great little folk-pop-punk album, bubbling with wise-beyond-her-years anthems like “Honey,” the faux-flamenco title track, and the no-holds-barred “Confessions Of A Teenage Girl.” The album’s centerpiece is a gossamer twist on rafter-raising gospel, “A Voice That Carries,” which is a testimony to McKee’s unflagging belief in her own talent during those troubled times, when friends and teachers alike had written her off as a real nowhere burnout. Because she does, indeed, have a voice that carries.

- And then after that she got dropped.
- Continued to abuse drugs and alcohol.
- Almost got cast in "High School Musical."
- Managed to get a role in the movie "August Rush" and the show "CSI: New York."
- Started writing full-time.
- Appeared in Katy's "I Kissed A Girl" video.
- Met Dr. Luke and found major writing success. (including 8 #1 songs.)
- Appeared in videos for Katy/Ke$ha
- Kicked alcohol for good.
- Now she's on track to be the next big pop-star....

What kind of Phoenix from the ashes story that far eclipses the struggles of Katy/Gaga/ect....

Wow she went through a lot, and oh my god at her almost getting cast in "HSM" she would have been an amazing Sharpay, tho I'm glad she didn't got it because she's too good for some Disney movie.

its 3 years ago but is this still reliable?
McKee: I'm going to work on the Britney Spears record with Luke, probably until the end of the year, and then I'll get pretty heavy into my own stuff. I'm just carving out what exactly it's going to be. Luke is producing half of my album and executive-producing the whole thing. I'm hoping to have something by springtime. There are a few other projects, but I don't want to jinx anything.

I'm liking her current hair a lot more than when it was dark red with the blonde front. I would like the current red-parts a little darker though.
-
Her entire drug-phase was when she was like 15/16... such a wild child. She's definitely gotten it together over the years. Even Bonnie herself admits that if she'd found major success at 19, she'd likely be dead by now. I couldn't have handled another Winehouse-tragedy.
Luckily she's now happy, healthy, sober, and ready to smash.

The lyrical highlights from my 4 favorite "Trouble" songs.
Quote:
Honey
Someday I'll go for the glory
I'll conquer everyones fears and
For once the ending of the story won't be tears
|
Quote:
Marble Steps
I always dreamed of Sundays together with you
Only your echos can break my heart
|
Quote:
Sensitive Subject Matter
I told you I would listen to you, so I'm all ears,
But don't ask me to respond to your pleas for my advice,
'Cause now I'm too burdened to speak.
|
Quote:
I Hold Her
Burning in heaven, my destiny lies
When she read my stars, she didn't mention that night
I loved you, my Bambi, I don't want to leave
But, I hold her she's sobbing, my baby...
|
" Only your echoes can break my heart."
