It's like the easiest hit on the album... What else do you want from a lead single from a pop girl?
She played it really risky during the BTW era, so she should've started the ARTPOP era with something more soft. Applause was a good idea but Do What U Want would be better.

Do What U Want would have done great with a proper video .

It would have gotten a lot of buzz from R. Kelly being included also, that would have made up for any weaknesses as a lead.

This! Lady Gaga was like gone in tvs and radios for like 1 and a half year, the GP miss the craziness that Gaga is. I remember like everyone's keep asking where's Gaga. I think Applause was great lead single since people missed those craziness.

And if DWUW was the lead, there's no way she can follow that with Applause or Venus, 2nd single will probably Dope/Gypsy for a great transition (Like TEOG to Y&I). And I think DWUW deserves to be a 3rd Single after Venus, so the transition will be great DWUW(3rd) with Gypsy(4th)
