Screw a culture. No one is obligated to tip anyone, ever.

Because they make drinks/ clean tables. They all get a share of my tips. Bartenders earn a LOT. When I was a busser, I was getting $4/hour + shared tip from servers (which was calculated in computer system)

I worked a few months at a night club, doing dishes/washing glasses, helping bartenders, getting drinks out of the storage room and so on.
You have to be quick, calculated, focused and go full out when the club is packed. I busted my ass off working most nights, and of course every bartender I help out will give me part of his/her tip. I work just as hard as they do and people get the service because we all work in a chain. Why should only the person who delivers it be rewarded?

There is also hypocrisy. Waiters complain about not getting good tips from this or that customer, but don't want the system to change b/c they can make more than minimum. Like, they why get mad if your making $20 hours when xtina10 only tips $5?

You could also say "no one is obligated to smile to anyone, ever"
This is the American culture
But unfortunately (or fortunately) restaurant employers exploit and use it to their own advantage (to pay less in wages)

Because the customer is not tipping the bartender, they are tipping the waiter for the waiter's service.

LOL! If everyone was xtina10, I wouldn't be making $20/hour. Where is the logic?
And I wouldn't complain if a single customer paid $5 in tips, that's good (if the bill was less than $30)
And again, I did NOT complain about my job, I was informing

They are definitely helping us. Idk how to make alcohol drinks, they do it for me
Sometimes I feel sorry for them, on Saturday nights they are extremely busy (they also have to serve people at the bar, who also order food)

I wasn't talking about a restaurant but a club.
However, the same logic applies. Just because the waiter is the only person you have contact with doesn't mean they are the only ones who deserve that tip. One of the reasons you tip is because a service was fast, right? That doesn't depend on the waiter alone.

On the other hand, considering the exorbitant costs of running a restaurant and the extremely high closure rate of most homegrown restaurants (roughly 57% over three years), I don't know how feasible it would be to do away with the reduced pay rate for restaurant staff.
The system is pretty flawed but I really don't see much of a way to fix it.

Here is a thing too: tipping promotes being extra nice and constantly caring about customers.
When my mom went back to my home country, she was unused to how waiters were not nice and not caring....because they do not get tips, like at all
Just an argument for tipping

Question for the waiters in here: would you rather have a decent paycheck and no tips or minimum wage + tips?

Well... I don't have any. At my place they pay WAY below minimum wage ($2/hour)
But if I were to choose, I'd choose no tips, because it would be less stressful trying to be extra nice and run around like crazy. But would employers like it? They's have to pay a lot more in salaries and deal with unmotivated attitude of some not so nice servers
But I'm looking at it from an average server standpoint. I work in an expensive place, so I doubt the decent paycheck would be more than my current wage in tips

Because a lot of restaraunts and establishments pool tips so they're not necessarily getting to keep however much they made that hour. At the end of the night all the waiters put together all of the tips they made and then they each get a cut (after tipping out the bussers/bartenders/etc etc.) So while one waiter may have made a shitload of money in tips that hour, another waiter, perhaps with a less busy section or who happened to get a bunch of xTina10 ****** tippers, could end up pulling in close to nothing and they could end up getting nowhere close to as much as they pulled in that night.
It's really not as black and white as alot of you seem to think. You can end up getting x amount of money in tips individually and end up getting not even half of that in the end.

I needed to help pay hospital bills, and I wanted work experience by the time I graduated.
Funny thing is, that was the best job I've had in terms of pay. Although it sucks relying on other people for your paycheck, it always (if not, often) gives a bigger payout.
At that point I had to decide from: working part time as a sales associate of some sort for about $7-8 an hour and being a waitress part time for about $20+ an hour.
When I tell you, around the time I barely started working I had NO clue how servers were paid and saw that $2 an hour...

I usually tip accordingly to the country I'm in (well, my parents do ) but I don't think it should be illegal. It gives something extra for harder workers. I think though that it should be illegal to put a 'service fee' on the bill, that makes tipping basically useless, because it's something that has to be done instead of something that's voluntary.

I've never tipped in my entire life and I don't plan to unless the person serving me is extremely hot.
