first off, have you read or watched any Janet interviews seriously? and it's funny how you say Rene added class, but yet if you read her earlier interviews, Rene is in the background joking about the"Janet" album sholud come with codoms and telling stripper jokes, and I am not even gonna get into some of the things he said back in the day in the in the Miss Janet chat room. I think the only reasons why the fans liked Rene was because he did interact alot with the fans, and gave them tickets upgrades, that was the only decent thing about the guy.

I've watched more Janet Jackson interviews than I care to count, and I understand your point. But I wasn't alluding to her interviews on daytime talk shows. Janet knows there's a time and a place for that sort of thing, but outside those types of shows it always seems like she's only got one focal point in her conversations--sex. She's a nice person and I'm not judging her because she's horny all the time but I'm entitled to criticize her music. Rene was crude in his demeanor, but he brought elements to both her music and lyrics that Janet was too vapid to cultivate and he had a more conventional understanding of music composition and genre...maybe that sounds too harsh, but I don't really see Janet as an innovator. Jimmy, Terry, and Rene (on TVR) had to get the ball rolling for her. Control was already an end product before Janet came in and tweaked it here and there. I love a lot of her albums and I'm not saying she's untalented but I just think most of the credit for her legacy belongs to J & T.

I disagree.

I have suspected that Rene had more than a small hand in her artistry, because without him her albums have gone downhill so drastically. But it never really can be proven. I'm hoping she soon proves you wrong.

I also think that Jimmy and Terry are as much to blame for the recent albums (besides Discipline) as she is. It seems as if their creativity was all dried up by 2004; the entire DJ album is a bunch of songs that you think you've heard before. 20 Y.O. is no better--the songs are more unique but they're also even worse, production-wise.

And yes, I totally agree that Jimmy and Terry lost their inspiration in the last five years or so. Gwen's Love..Angel..Music...Baby is one of my absolute favorite albums but I thought "Harajuku Girls" was kind of lame, especially considering Jimmy and Terry were capable of so much more.
