When did I ever mention Beyonce. I was only speaking about Britney's promo and that music videos doesn't really count as promo, because it is a standard thing to do. Besides both HIAM & BTW got to #1 weeks before their music videos were released. Britney got her with just 1 tweet.

Various new songs?? HIAM and TTWE, Big Fat Bass was cut. When I say airplay is not promotion, I mean it's not managed by the artist's team. That's just radio picking up.

Oh we can say plenty, so don't drag Rihanna into this when I left her name out of it. Stick to Christina Aguilera who is your fave, or Britney who you are obsessed with.

There is no better promotion than a hit single and radio support. It doesn't matter if a singer goes to every shows on the planet if the songs are not heavily played or succesful then it doesn't matter. I wish people will let go that promo excuse.

|
Radio is one of the biggest promotion you can get. If your song isn't played on the radio, how can people know which songs there are on your album? Since Beyoncé didn't have radios back this time around of course her sales aren't amazing.

Thank you!
I'm glad someone else realizes that. No matter how much or how well Bey. performed, if the songs didn't catch on, all of that promotion isn't going to help.

|
What promotional tour in Europe? Glastonbury set was full of songs from her old albums, you lose. X-Factor was once again, a Run The World performance, and Piers Morgan was an interview about making '4', Britney has one of those on MTV herself.

I know you didn't, but your post reminded me of the never ending argument between the Britney and Beyonce stans about 4's promotion.

god, I fell right into the trap. Both albums underperformed, we can argue all that we want, that's not gonna change it. Both albums have strong points, like 4 outselling FF with no hit singles, and FF selling more records. but they underperformed. period.

That's not enough, and a tour doesn't sell the album that much......
While Beyonce performed on the american idol finale which had like twice as much audience as all of britney's promotional appearances this era. Britney hardly promoted this era, that's a fact.

Life by procuration. Can't use my fave let me hide behind another. Something the fans of nostalgic acts do so well.

I still won't accept the term ''flopped hard'' for ''4'' because it does actually very well for an album that had not one single hit song. I mean it's already over 2M sold WW, 1M in the US sold. Without a single hit. How is that a flop? That's actually pretty good imo. And I don't think that it's the music people don't like. I mean Party was a big hit on Urban stations, Love On Top is a big hit on AC Urban stations. It's just that the promotion is not handled well. If Run The World (Girls) didn't leak or if she released another first single and if Beyoncé wasn't pregnant, the album would be a hit.
|
But when we examine the album on a holistic level, it flopped pretty bad. You say it sold 2 mil....well that's an 80% or so decrease from I Am... Sasha Fierce. Then you mention that it didn't have one single hit song...that's a drag within itself. A crucial part of the albums are the songs so if a song flops than that's referencing back to the album.
I think you're right tho when you say that the promo has been off. The management of these songs required more attention than her previous album seeing as how these song weren't exactly radio candy. But that didn't happen, the year was a dud for the album. 2 mil albums sold isn't impressive, then throwing in no hit single makes this album even less impressive. I'll fall back knowing that the album generated good music that the critics backed up. And I commend Bey on taking the risk, but it wasn't a risk that payed off.

Music videos send songs flying up iTunes, even if it's just 5 spots or so, this is a fact. You should know that since I Wanna Go got boosted thanx to the video.
And are you seriously sitting here saying that airplay isn't promo?
A World Tour not promoting? Why else would they do it?
She tweeted her fans the album name and the album cover, that is promotion!
|
Yes radio is good promo, but what is Britney's relation to that? Weren't you mentioning Britney doing promo?
A World Tour these days is the money making machine. Technically most of the successful musicians release cds to promote their world tours. It's no longer the case of touring to promote your current cd. You live in the past.
And now WOW she TWEETED, what a promo. Seriously...

A tour does wonders for an album, when Beyonce left Brazil she went double diamond.
When she left the UK her album sales boosted, same for Rihanna and Gaga.
And for the last time, she performed 1+1 and Crazy In Love on American Idol, that is not promo for '4'.

Lol at this turning into a Bey vs Brit argument once again. I mean Sats just said in the OP that "4" is a complete flop which I don't agree about, but it seems like Britney's stans can't just deal with some negative things said about her without turning it into a blame the other or Beyoncé discussion.
Just like when I made the "please monsters, stop" thread. I shaded everybody including my fave but Britney's stans just had to catch a feeling.
