I remember I also kinda stanned for this Gaga back then. Nobody around me knew her yet... And she quickly became very huge.

Time has flied so fast... Now I see her debut like a good marketing performer : she has sold basic pop music with huge events, visuals, conceptual speechs... Basically a true worhalian experience

Then she become too arty and she has lost it.

Now she hates pop music, and wanted to retire after getting destroyed by the ARTPOP era. It's a shame too because ARTPOP was not awful but the lack of an efficient team coupled with a depressed Gaga was just the makings for a disaster

Pretentious is a word I've heard throughout Gaga's career so how Joanne is more so than before, I have no idea. Except the pink hat on her head, she's wearing clothes that anyone else can buy.

For once this isn't a persona. It's a story loosely based on Joanne but the real part of it is -- it's actually about Gaga. She's too insecure to openly admit it, knew that people wouldn't understand (look back at her old, less publicised interviews outside of the U.S., she knows you think she's crazy.) She'll only willingly share private details if she thinks it will help others, that's why she's spoken about the sexual abuse.

Gaga hasn't yet discussed specifically what happened to her earlier in her career. No names. It would completely ruin her - Kesha and her fans know that. She's respectfully speaking about her issues, and the lyrics explain explicitly what Stefani is thinking about. She also hasn't been frank about her relationship with Taylor, pretending to the world that they were friends still. That's the kind of woman she is - respectful.

She isn't writing for other people, she's wrote an autobiographical album that she hopes people will relate to. Practical, real life issues. No theatrics. Is she supposed to be wearing a bubble dress while singing Angel Down? Then you'd definitely be right to call her disingenuous and pretentious even.

She doesn't hate pop music, otherwise she wouldn't have released Joanne the way it was but would have made pure country songs and not a pop album that borrows elements from genres like country among other genres.

Joanne is just an other part of the pop landscape. And it is not like she turned 180. Yeah the album is sonically different from her past efforts. But Just Another Day is basically something which roots are not only in the music she grew up with but artistically it also hints back at songs she did for The Fame like Again Again. Same for other songs. I mean a song like You and I also sonically would fit perfectly on Joanne.

People pretend like everything has completely changed, but she just build upon what she has lowkey showed us several times in the past and was confident enough at this phase in her life and career to make her personal feelings come alive along with a sound that she just took a step further than the hints she gave in the past.

The overall discography, including leaked material, tells so much more about the evolution of an artist and their craft than just focusing on the overall sound of the singles/visuals that have been released.

Joanne had happened at one point, if it didn't happen in 2016, we would have seen an album/project in a similair vein down the road by her.

I was talking about this the other day with one of my (girl)friends. She was the **** back then. She was so weird in an exciting way. Everybody was talking about her, watching her every move, every thing she said/did. It was CRAZY. She's definitely one of the beat things that happened to the music world, and it's really sad to see how her career declined the way it did

Emails back and forth that Xtina was incredibly rude behind the scenes. So we started collecting the tea. Everyone she's ever bad-mouthed (a lot of people, including atrls faves), the screams, the diva attitude, and basically everything was compiled into one big article with receipts. People often said she was "pretentious" even back then because she exuded this aura of self-importance or "I'm better than ABC artist/doing XYZ thing right now" even if she's never said it directly. That was what turned a lot of fans away from her. I know that's what it was for me at least. Most of that didn't start to happen until during the BTW era, IIRC. I find the Joanne act pretentious bc like her fans, she seems to be frowning upon the very same sound that made her great.

It's also getting super hard to believe the "This is the real her" argument because it's one that has been made every single time she releases an album and plays a character much MUCH different from the last

It wasn't really the bubble dresses or whatever that made her interesting. She was daring but somehow it still felt organic. She has lost herself in trying to please others, be it the fans or the general public. Notice she specifically said she made ARTPOP with radio hits in mind and now she said she made Joanne to capture the attention of the people or whatever.

Well, she did everything she possibly could to throw it all away, so she really doesn't have anyone to blame but herself. Doesn't stop her from constantly playing the victim though.

Right. Like we don't remember them asking for TF 2.0 before PI was released. You can enjoy both sides of Gaga. You don't have to pretend to hate the old her just because you want people to accept and embrace this "new" her. She looks fantastic. I just wish her music had the same punch.
