It has - moreso than I'd anticipated. Before going to bed last night, I thought perhaps 2-3 people had been, or would be, murdered. I didn't think that much about it - gun tragedies in the US are commonplace, often they elicit little more than an eyeroll from me. Waking up to hear the graphic details of the situation, and the high death toll was, wow. I'm stunned.

I feel exactly the same. All day i have been feeling really down and depressed, i never feel like this. Just feel tired of it all. The fact that it was against lgbt just makes it hit home all the more. Can't even sleep

Everyone is ignoring that it is foremost a hate attack against gay people. Sometimes it isn't even mentioned in the articles. Disgusting.

Yeah it has affected me because of its ties to the gay community.

Gay clubs are pretty much the only space I know that are 100% for and about the gays - and to see them under attack this way is so horrendous.

I can't imagine how a fun, usual night out with your friends would wind up with someone firing bullets at you and your friends. It's just insane.

It makes me think about how much we all have to go through just to even get to a point where we're happy with ourselves and understanding who and what we are. Then we have to explain ourselves to people endlessly for the rest of our lives, feel uncomfortable telling extended family, hiding ourselves at work in fear of being viewed & treated differently (eg. old straight whites mightn't feel comfortable, hindering your progression chances) and then when we just go to our one damn place - they're under attack.

It's so easy to exist on the internet thinking the world is a safe place, but it's not - and there's a lot of people that hate us.

Yes for sure, these things rarely touch me but this was terrible, I have 5 exams this week and I could barely focus, maybe it was because it was agaisnt LGBT, most of us already have daily problems wether at home, school, workplace, let us at least have fun and forget about our problems for a moment in places created for us to feel safe in and non marginalized by society

Of course it's created feelings of upset and just generally being emotional but more than anything it has made me feel invigorated and completely reaffirmed the statement to me that we need to continue on our fight and stand strong in our pride, with remembrance for those who have left us. In light of this attack we should be more united and put more power into our pride than before, do not back down. Let's use our hurt in positivity and good.

I feel very lucky to be here in the UK but that's not to say it's safe necessarily. I've been so, so lucky and I'm so grateful to know I've never experienced any real homophobia and have the best network of open, liberal and kindhearted friends of various sexualities and genders. So to know this hatred still exists in such massive amounts (the disgusting social media response from some people broke my heart too) has really left me quite shaken and numb today.

While this incident doesn't reflect the US as a whole, it raises so many issues that need tackling but sadly they won't be. I just feel that the LGBT connection made this hurt more because of how easily a homophobe could decide to attack innocent people even in today's world. A lot of people may not care as it's just another statistic of US gun crime but as a gay person it feels worrying, like we're still being targeted. I am glad guns aren't really a thing here because in the horrible chance I found myself being attacked for my sexuality it would probably be different circumstances, but it doesn't mean I won't have this permanently fixed in my memory whenever I go out in the future.

Again rest in peace to all the victims and my thoughts are with their loved ones.

What is the general consensus about this? Because i find myself completely agreeing with Owen. The way everyone is trying to downplay the fact the he deliberately targeted LGBT should be the main point when discussing. The fact that lady said he would probably target "gobby women" in a similar way really pissed me off

Yes, I feel so drained and weak.

My head literally hurts from crying because I cannot understand why this had to happen.
I have so much to do yet I don't feel like doing anything or talking to anyone.
