For the first two minutes of this song, I'm interested, but I don't REALLY care about the song. Once the main portion of "You Can't Always Get What You Want" kicks in, however, I'm hooked the rest of the way. It just needed to warm up, to get started in earnest, and I can dig that. We've got one other Stones song still to come, but this one is undoubtedly a classic.

I've heard this song maybe once or twice before this top 100. Now, I can't get it out of my head. It's entrancing, it's gorgeous, it's beautiful...it's Björk, basically.

For the LONGEST time, I thought this song was incredibly overrated and overshadowed No Doubt's discography. Only recently have I realized that this song is truly brilliant. Gwen Stefani's vocal performance is among her personal best (and certainly among her most emotional), and the music rivals anything No Doubt has ever done.

"At Last" is one of the most iconic songs of the 60's. It still gets used in movies, TV shows and commercials today. If you have not at least heard the first "AAAAAAATTT LAAAAAAAAAAST", then you have lived a very sheltered life. Hidden behind that classic opening line is a wonderful vocal performance by the late, great Etta James.

Fun fact: Did you know that this song is actually a widely covered folk song? Even before The Animals did their own version, artists such as Roy Acuff, Joan Baez, Lead Belly, Woody Guthrie, Nina Simone, and even Bob Dylan all recorded their own versions. But let's be serious here, The Animals' version is the definitive version. It's the most widely listened to version, it's the most popular version, and, frankly, it's the best and most powerful version. The way that Eric Burdon howls his way through the song STILL sends chills down my spine.
Tomorrow, we get to the top 65, as we hit
songs 65-61! Here's some clues and tidbits:
- Another 60's-heavy set! Three songs from the 60's, one from the 80's, and one from the 90's are found in the next set.
- One artist is making their first of five appearances here.
- All three artists from the 60's are making their only appearances with absolute classics. One of the songs is one of the most well-known songs from its era or any era.
- The artist from the 80's is making their second appearance with the last song to be voted for on just two ballots.
See you tomorrow!
