I'm not sure. We know Gaga is normally working until the last minute. I get the feeling Bobby really wants everything to be done in advance to make for a much more fluid release schedule. I feel like with Born This Way and ARTPOP, they set a release dates quite far in advance, without anything near a finished project, giving them a window of time to know they had to be finished by, which is why they ended up literally working on both until the very last minute.
If Gaga knew by next month say she had a finished album, or just about, it'd be easy for them to set a release schedule much shorter than that of Born This Way and ARTPOP.
And I really don't think she'll miss out on the Grammys.

She's not waiting until after October for the album. It would be detrimental to the hype they've built this year.
