The reason people say that Katy ended Gaga's career is because Gaga tried it by releasing at the same time as Katy and got dragged. It's a little different to saying Taylor who pretty much always sold more albums than Katy ended Katy's career by outselling her with an album released a year after Katy. Oh and even the media joke that Katy "ended Gaga's career" (Gaga's fault for trying it with Applause and inviting comparisons), which was kind of iconic. Poor Taylor, her most iconic moment in her career being getting dragged by Kanye Yall will hop on the bandwagon for the success but nobody remembers Taylor's songs, let's be real
