FUNKY MONKEY BABYS is a band that debuted in 2004 & that's thier first greatest hits album (which sell like hot cakes in Japan) so I'm not surprised at thier sales.

& Kana Nishino is like the new it girl of Japan. Her singles do amazing on the digital charts so I'm not shocked by her sales either.

Can anyone tell me why Ayu's album sales are decreasing more and more with the albums she brings out? I mean Rock 'N' Roll Circus is clearly much better than NEXT LEVEL in my opinion yet it sold less. Also MOON / Blossom is her first single in a while to sell less than 100,000. I just hope this will not happen with the 2 singles she brings out next month. I'm hoping her 50th single 'L' will sell a good amount, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that "crossroads" beats Koda's new single later in September.

^ I think promo,Ayu has been playing it safe with her voice because she wants to be perfect for her upcoming tour. Not only that but Ayu doesn't release many singles to promote her albums any more...the most we'll get is two double a sides singles.



I like Kana but her new single "if" trumps everything she's done so far IMO.

But she releases many promotional videos before the album. Ayumi promotes albums, but not singles. I don't think she even promoted "MOON" at all :-/

I just hope she promotes her 50th single, I'm so excited!

As Cobato said, less promo, less single releases, there's also music piracy, and I think another big part of it is that she's been around nonstop since 1998. No matter how awesome an artist is, their momentum peaks and falls. Sometimes it'll peak more than once...

I think Ayu's sales are decreasing because she's been in the industry for a quite some time now and releases stuff consistently and some people might be bored with her already lol. She has like a million songs and most cover the same themes lyrically so I can kinda understand why people would not be as interested. Nevertheless, she still remains one of the top female artists in the Japanese music scene and the sales overall are declining everywhere so what she sells now is still really good.
