Certifications are not Sales.
Monica's "Miss Thang" is certified 3x Platnium and only sold 1.6 Million.
Soundscan & RIAA are two different things.

I would've thought The Boy Is Mine sold more considering that she had 3 #1's from that album.

I could remember she had 3 #1 songs on Billboard Hot 100 in one album: The First Night, The Boy Is Mine, and Angel of Mine.
Your faves could never. Lol

@ her already outselling her last album.

THIS.
I thought she would have sold more as Brandy has more sales (I thought the two had similar sales)

Damn she wasn't that big of an album seller I'm shocked, because she's holding up really nicely. Interestingly enough, all of Rihanna's 4 albums has out-sold Monica's numbers. These two aren't known to push large numbers but have had respectable time in the spotlight...

according to Nielsen SoundScan:
8,621,000, Brandy
8,151,000, Aaliyah
4,809,000, Monica
3,211,000, Mya
Wow @ Mya.

I don't get the Rihanna comparisons... fill me in as to why she even matters to Monica?
---
I expected like 5 mil. from ATS. That was just a great Monica album for me.

But wow, One In A Million and the Boy Is MIne sold the SAME amount of copies despite Monica having wayy more exposure (oprah, award shows, # 1 record breaking brandy duet, two # 1 singles, etc). I guess she was the 90's Rihanna in a sense.

I'm glad Still Standing is outselling her last album. Its one of the best R&B albums this year IMO
Brandy >>>>>>>> Monica though

Brandy was the 90's IT girl, in all honesty. She had everything going for her, the music and beyond... TV show, face was everywhere on products, movies, everything. Monica wasn't as popular as Brandy. Monica held her own though.

Her sales are kinda lower than what I expected. I thought for sure she sold more but still OK.
Monica was more successful than Brandy on the Hot 100.
And I like how people say that Aaliyah wasn't as successful as Monica and Brandy. Yes, I know she gained some sales after her death but she didn't have explosive sales after her death like Michael, for example. Her albums are undercertified, while Monica's are "overcertified." Aaliyah held her own.
Brandy was more popular than them because of her shows and endorsements, but she's not doing much these days. Monica had a down period but was able overcome it. That's a trooper. I wonder what Aaliyah would be doing today. Even though she wasn't that huge, I think Aaliyah had more promise than Monica and Brandy. That's why Aaliyah was able to have more success at the early part of last decade before she died, and Brandy and Monica were kinda on the decline. But all of those are my girls. The original teen queens...

true that! It's crazy how Bran was one of the most memorable artists of the 90's but now she might have to work really hard to make a strong comeback. Fans are so fickle.

Yea it's always so funny.. Not to discredit Monica and Bran but if you look at how the 2000's was going Aaliyah's career was actually progressing better than the other two.. But they dont like mentioning that, especially Aaliyah being the only one out of the 3 making billboard's artist of the decade list.
