And for the record, I'm not referring to free tier - I'm referring to subscription streaming (I have a Premium Spotify account), which is still significantly cheaper than buying individual songs/albums provided that you just listen to 1 new album or 10 new songs a month.

It's like literally $10 to support your fave artist. You don't have be a multimillionaire to support your favourite artists, ridiculous argument.

Adele's discography sans 25 is still on Spoify and Hello is still there too, she's not being as dramatic as Swift.

Are you a Taylor fan? If so, you may actually be the most level-headed stan of any artist that I've ever seen on ATRL. Your posts are so insightful and honest.

I agree. I prefer the old fashion way of consuming music.

But the fact is that she IS helping the small artists and there is no concrete evidence that was not her intention. I am not saying there needs to be one or you are wrong. Your explanation to the flames Taylor got might be true but that don't make people who dragged Taylor while clapping for this any less of a hypocrite.
People yet to buy her previous albums probably won't and she'd get more coins by making them available, so making a statement is the best explanation to her making them all unavailable on Spotify. If it weren't for Taylor and Adele speaking about it here is the first time any big names speak about this, people most probably wouldn't care as much, unless Adele pulls a Taylor.

Boohoo, these artists need to realize it's 2015 and streaming is only growing stronger.
I love physical music and will still buy for my faves, but I'm not spending 10-15 each on albums I can listen to for only 10 bucks a month on Apple Music. It's basic economics.

Actually, Taylor was pretty honest about the fact that she left Spotify because she thought music should be paid for. Helping the small artists was also a reason, but it wasn't her main point about it. However, helping the small artists was one of the main points with the Apple Music thing, you may be confusing them
In fact, here is her first interview about leaving Spotify with TIME Magazine
Quote:
Why did you leave Spotify? I’m in an office of people who are upset they can’t stream your music.
Well, they can still listen to my music if they get it on iTunes. I’m always up for trying something. And I tried it and I didn’t like the way it felt. I think there should be an inherent value placed on art. I didn’t see that happening, perception-wise, when I put my music on Spotify. Everybody’s complaining about how music sales are shrinking, but nobody’s changing the way they’re doing things. They keep running towards streaming, which is, for the most part, what has been shrinking the numbers of paid album sales.
With Beats Music and Rhapsody you have to pay for a premium package in order to access my albums. And that places a perception of value on what I’ve created. On Spotify, they don’t have any settings, or any kind of qualifications for who gets what music. I think that people should feel that there is a value to what musicians have created, and that’s that. I wrote about this in July, I wrote an op-ed piece in the Wall Street Journal. This shouldn’t be news right now. It should have been news in July when I went out and stood up and said I’m against it. And so this is really kind of an old story.

I agree. I hate streaming, I even hate the idea of buying a digital copy. What's the point? It's not even close to what a physical copy is.

notice how the only 2 doing this are adele and taylor.
what do they have in common?
they constantly sell millions of albums per release.
They don't need streaming to make money hence why they pull out all their stuff on streaming services.
They are ALBUM sellers, and they are confident that their fanbase will buy what they put out.

Because other artists talk as if their music is elite, and they get really in-depth about it.
whereas Adele knows whats up, but simply chooses not to. But doesn't make a song and dance about whats ethical or anything she just says it how she feels.
Other artists get political about the subject which is where ATRL gets its voice.

I agree with her, and I disagree that Spotify should be free. What people don't understand is that once music isn't profitable, or a good business, we'll lose a lot of what we have.

Are the Swifties conveniently ignoring the fact 21 was left off Spotify for 18 months? Also that Skyfall was only recently put up on there?
I do think the current streaming model needs to be changed. New albums should only be available to premium subscribers for the first few months (if indie bands, etc want to put it up for free, then let them). Only singles should be available for free since it's the same thing as YouTube, radio, etc.
Streaming is convenient but everything shouldn't be for free right away.

People saying: If only we were millionaire......
I'm not even RICH and I buy everything that I listen to......Physical Copies. And I also have a premium account on spotify to have more songs on my smartphone.
I find it completely hypocrite and disrespectful to call yourself such a FAN OF MUSIC and then you only listen to music illegally. It doesn't make any sense. It's like saying: I don't care if music dies......I don't really like it that much. It's like going to your favorite restaurant and not paying for the food, someone made that food....I could go on and on with examples.
It's just really sad to see sooooo many so-called-musicstans who doesn't give a sh.t about the music industry.

This. Thank you!
Same here, I buy most of my music on iTunes, on CD or Vinyl.

When people call her or Taylor "greedy", I have to laugh because it's so hypocritical. Anyone expecting to get everything for free are the greedy ones.
And for those who say "well they sell millions of albums so they should stream", maybe the reason they sell is BECAUSE of their stance on streaming? Just a thought.

I'll buy the physical copies from artists I love, otherwise I'll download the songs I like from iTunes. I used to listen to iTunes Radio and it helped me discover many great small artists whose songs I did go onto purchase. Personally I dont really agree with Adele. As long as your material is reaching an audience then I am sure it'll payoff in the long run. While I don't have a Spotify account (likely never will) and prefer to just buy the songs, I don't see streaming as disposable at all. Music has value in many ways, but it shouldnt be defined by a purchase.

Meh.. mixed feelings... it's annoying that everyone who is doing the clap thing are the same people who slam taylor when she said the exact same.. regardless I pay for spotify so i think it's a bit unfair i think if you pay for streaming you should be able to have all albums it's the one's who use the free version shouldn't be able to have it
