Female artists usually dominate the music scene as we've seen in recent years. But have we found our queen of music for 2013?

This is your reason to say the music died?

If anything, it's more interesting and a good escape from the normal pop-gurl-dominated mainstream music scene.

Maybe pop music but the indie/rock scene is thriving. Pop music always adapts to trends, pop as in pop culture as in whats trendy. if indie/electronic rap(idk the wording ) then pop artists will adapt it into their music as well.

2013 has already given us two Macklemore #1 hits, Daft Punk having incredible success, Justin Timberlake releasing one hell of a pop album, Kanye West making and releasing an album in record time, Queens of the Stone Age releasing the album of the year (so far), and countless other songs providing mainstream pop with its best look in over a decade. I'd say 2013 has been pretty impressive so far.

I could see how the OP thinks this has been a bad year for music. I think what the OP is really lamenting is the lack of drama thus far. There really hasn't been a breakout singing sensation this year. I mean, unless you consider Macklemore a singing sensation. Arianna Grande has her single, but it's just that, a song, and it isn't a "Call Me Maybe". When you think about it, there was quite a bit of drama served up with our music last year from debut and veteran artists alike. Lana Del Rey had that terrible SNL outing and got everyone talking. Frank Ocean used a coming out letter to promote his R&B album. Rih released the Birthday Cake remix with Chris Brown.

This year, what have we had? Bieber pissing in a bucket. Kanye getting more press for Kim K and their baby than for himself or his bad music. Beyonce stringing her fans along for months. Yeah, she gave drama with the lip-sync scandal and Superbowl but no new album. Gaga broke her hip, but that wasn't funny.

There are still five months left, but this year has been lacking in visual spectacle. There's a very good reason for the OP to lament the so called "decline" of female artists, and it's because lately, it's the women who have been making the most creative videos. Miley's the only mainstream, female artist to make a visually memorable video this year, thus far. Arguably, the most talked about video this year has been Blurred Lines, and it's being talked about for all the wrong reasons.

Very few, if any, are bringing it visually this year with their videos. Say what you want about LDR, but her clip premieres were highly anticipated and heavily watched. You had MIA with Bad Girls, Rih with WHYB. The best video I've seen recently has been Radioactive, and that came out in December of 2012.
