Definitely one of the biggest, yes. But let's not talk about her talent when it comes to serious movies. She's clearly a comedy actress.
And this is about movie stars btw. Not their persona and private life etc. Just their movie career. So, I don't know why Jennifer Aniston or Angelina Jolie are being considered successful movie stars. Jennifer never had a movie career and Jolie's died a few years ago.
The Hunger Games would have opened no matter who starred in it...like Twilight.
Silver Linings was a slow burner as a result of good buzz, good reviews, good word of mouth and Harvey Weinstein's wizardry.
She's yet to prove herself. She had the chance with House at the End of the Street and tanked (It's a terrible movie so we'll give her the benefit of the doubt on that one).

This isn't about the best actors (though Sandra's good at what she does). Even if it were Natalie Portman has no business being there, lol.
Sandra Bullock very quickly proved herself capable of opening a movie.
Not even a year after Speed she was thrown into While You Were Sleeping as a last-minute replacement for Demi Moore and she opened it and carried it to strong #s in the US and abroad.
