Your circumstance isn't rude. You asked politely & weren't intrusive, plus everyone can understand being grounded is not cool.

It's only rude, in my opinion, when you state that you're coming over as a fact & nothing the actual host says will change your mind.

NEVER just show up uninvited, that's rude. Don't just assume you're invited, but I think if you're friends asking if you can come over is fine.

If it's a friend close enough that I know they'd have no qualms saying "lol no **** off" and it wouldn't be awkward then I just say "hey, lemme come to your house!" if it's someone I don't know quite as well I ask politely and give them plenty of room to plausibly make an excuse if they don't want me.

Yeah. Showing up unannounced is the most annoying thing. If you go over to the person and ask them to leave, you end up looking bad even though you didn't do anything. Calling and asking is somewhat better , but it could make things awkward for the other person if they want to say no

It depends. If it's a good friend, just shoot them a text and wait for a response if it's alright to come over.

Just showing up without any prior notice can be rude. What if they already have company over?

It all depends on the situation, but in just in general yes. But if you ask, as you say you did, and they're fine with it, it's not rude at all.
