Gays can be killed in around 10 muslim countries, inequality between men and women on basic issues is standard, honour killings are supported by 40% of the population in Pakistan, over 50% of people support Erdogan in Turkey.

Trust me, I would love nothing more than to be assured that the extremist represent a ridiculous minority, but the facts paint a different picture.

Sure is. I'm not Muslim myself, I'm Hispanic, but I really look middle eastern, even I can a free to do that. I've experienced prejudice from people who thought I was "Muslim" because of the way I look. Just the other day, my friends boyfriend, who I'm not too fond of, said that I'm rocking the "Muslim" look really well!. I was like dafuq!? I don't even own a tunic, let alone have a mark on my forehead that some have indicating that I pray 5 times a day. Obviously from his stupid remarks I don't what have to disclose what ethnic group he belongs to.

I agree that religion should be criticized when a terrible event takes place in the name of that religion. It is one of the only ways to push for reform, because it seems like most people are unwilling to reform corrupt institutions until enough people loudly demand for reformation.

If a non-Muslim is perceived as Muslim and subsequently attacked or harmed as a result, I would consider that Islamophobia. Criticizing a religion or its followers is not, however. If this bothers you, you're living in the wrong decade.

but you have to realize that when someone says that they're muslim they are many preconceived ideas and stereotypes about that person. this often leaves them at a disadvantage in our society as they do not feel safe because they feel that they will be threatened as the most common stereotype is that muslims are terrorists. islamophobia is real. it is a religion of peace and peace only. don't let the availability heuristic ruin how you see things. research, educate yourself, and use your privilege to speak up for oppressed groups.

Nope. All 3 Abrahamic religions are awful but Islam takes the cake as the worst. I'll never understand why people say calling out things like Islamic racism/homophobia/misogyny/etc is Islamophobia. Those issues are FAR worse in the Middle East than in the west.
