This was the PERFECT finale. Just perfect. It was emotionally packed, the humour was nice, the throwbacks too.
The show was all about Ted and Robin anyway.

I agree that it's a perfect finale with regards to script writing. Even at the very end of something supposedly expected for quite some time, there's still something worth watching, if not game-changing, included in it.
Personally, I don't like this ending.
I would have loved it so much if this were me one year ago and before, because I have always shipped Ted & Robin, because they were almost perfect for each other. And you can never get over how much Ted loves her.
Not anymore. Tracy, The Mother, is the perfect one for Ted. No almost, they are just perfect. I love how in the very few minutes they are portrayed together, the writers successfully show us how fated their love is, and how much they love each other. It's love and connection on a soul level, even surpassing passionate and yearning love.
The ending kinda diminishes the whole meaning of Ted's journey for me. The Mother's existence is so belittled there.

Such a worth-watching last episode However, I didn't like the ending and the amount of exposure the mother got in this...

Robin gets long hair, and suddenly I like her again. She looked mediocre the last two seasons.

That is my main problem with the finale. I think the writers made the wrong decision with how they chose to structure this season - they could have gone above and beyond in giving us more stories and details on what happened after Ted and Tracy first meet instead of focusing on the weekend of the wedding. It could have been a lot more interesting and so in retrospect, it makes S9 look like filler. They decided to put lots of key moments in the finale and they didn't do them justice. Overall, it was poorly paced.
And it's not that the ideas weren't good or didn't make sense. They just could have been better handled.

Ted: "hey kids *waits 9 years* is ok if me and your Aunt Robin start dating?"
The finale was ok...it was more bittersweet than anything. Just sad that it's over.

I always thought the would end up together. It was predictable, no matter what. It would've worked if it wasn't for the last 3-4 seasons. Investing an entire season in Barney&Robin's love + wedding, showing how they really work together, and finally Ted letting Robin go and getting to know the true love of his life, only to throw all that away in the first 10 minutes of the finale. I mean, many people are saying it was a realistic ending. NO WAY.
So after all this character development, Barney goes back to being the same pathetic player in his 40s! I mean really! It was sweet that he eventually found the love of his life in his baby daughter, but HELL NO! That is throwing away 9 years of character development.
Robin & Barney getting divorced 3 years later was heartbreaking, but wasn't unrealistic. True. But it didn't work because they build up their love and wedding for two seasons, only to destroy it 3 minutes into the finale. If the last season had not been a stupid weekend, and we had seen more, it might've worked, but as it is, it just leaves the audience feeling betrayed.
I understand what they wanted to do. Having Ted and Robin ending up together was the most predictable ending to the show, so i guess they tried to stay away from that as much as possible. Which is a HUGE problem coz after 9 seasons, we know Ted & Robin DON'T WORK together. And everything so disrespectful to the mother. After all, they're basically saying that Ted's true love has always been Robin.
I think it's a decent finale for the show if it had taken place a couple of seasons back or if things had gone differently. But the messed up Barney's, Robin's and Ted's character development. Again, I understand what they were going for and it could've worked. Unfortunately, at this point, it didn't.

Not building Barney and Robin's relationship for 2 seasons to tear it apart in like 5 minutes
Barney and Robin was meant to be. Watching the previous episodes involving their relationship (and especially the perfect proposal episode) would be so awkward now.
And don't even let me start on The Mother. Chh......

I was left with mixed feelings about the finale. I liked how they chose to conclude the show story-wise - Ted & Robin always made sense to me and I always felt them being together coming in the end. After all, it has always been about Robin since the first episode. My problem with the finale (and I guess why most people are angry with it) is that it felt so rushed - everything happened so fast, we didn't get to see the birth of Ted's kids, how Tracy got sick, them mourning about it, their last moments. It made me angry and cheated that I didn't get to see Ted finally being happy with his long sought love and that Tracy didn't get a proper send-off. We didn't get to see Ted & Tracy's closure. And that's why Ted running off to Robin again felt so unsatisfying to me (even though I've been shipping them since Episode 1), even if it has been 6 years since Tracy passed, it was done in 10 seconds. They spend the whole show lying to us that Ted & Robin wouldn't end up together, they introduced the mother who is perfect for Ted, makes us fall in love with how perfect she is, and then when we start getting over Ted being with Robin, BAM the mother is dead, Ted will be with Robin. THE END.
I think the main mistake was the decision how to do the 9th season. Nobody wanted to see a whole season of filler episodes about slaps, bacon and eggs; I wanted to see how the group changed after that. I wanted to see the last two episodes made into the whole season - that way we could all get the proper closures and be fine with Ted being with Robin again.

The writing was horrible. Who in their right minds would argue otherwise?
The finale itself is OK but the ending puts a damper on the show's entire existence so they kinda shot themselves out with this one.

Indeed. They just threw away 9 years of character development to the trash bin. Too much hype for the wedding to end like nothing.

It was rushed, there were very important moments that should have been in the episodes of the ninth season instead of 30 second clips tbh.

I think I would've been more upset with the mother dying had the writers not been throwing Ted/Robin in our face for nine seasons.
It was always clear to me that's the path they were going to take it.
