I genuinely feel like Kanye doesn't really care about commercial success anymore. He wants the critical success whether he admits it or not, but mostly I think he just wants to create something that he feels is valuable and force others to be influenced by it.
As comical as it is to hear him talk about it, he
does remind me a bit of a Steve Jobs or a Michael Phelps, but to a lesser extent. People who revolutionized or their fields to such an extent that there were no greater victories left. Only he hasn't revolutionized his field quite to their extent and he hasn't hit his creative peak. Steve Jobs hadn't hit his peak either, but God began to feel threatened.
