One is basic with tired themes and lyrics and the other is a raw, somber look at a failed relationship filled with better lyrics and instrumentation.

Both of them are not masterpieces. I Almost Did (Make A Good Song) is too lyrically basic for Taylor's songwriting (It slays most of the other pop girls' discographies though) and her vocals are just too pitchy there. And Sad Beautiful Tragic is a well-written song imo that deserved better production (Yes, I know the instrumental slays, but the sad lyrics+the tempo+the vocals+the instrumental=mopey song. Nathan didn't have to make it sound so mopey cuz the lyrics are not mopey imo. They're just melancholic and melancholic=/=mopey). My 2 cents

Funny you mentioned critical acclaim for both Taylor and Gaga Jake when I get the feeling that Gaga mimics and merely brings the spectacle in comparison to Taylor who doesn't try to be some great legend putting on a legendary show that represents the art of blah blah blah. As the article says, she is sincere and maintains a balance, something that Gaga could learn a thing or two from.
