Update: Lady Gaga to Release Her New Single 'Born This Way' Worldwide on Friday, February 11, 2011
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Following her tweet Monday morning, "Can't wait any longer, single coming Friday," (twitter.com/ladygaga), it's announced today that "Born This Way," the first single and track from the upcoming album from Lady Gaga, the most influential music artist in the world today, will be released worldwide to radio at 6:00 a.m. EST on Friday, February 11th. It will then be available for purchase online at 9:00 a.m. EST the same day.

At first I thought this was a bad idea, but this actually gives her a better chance at debuting #1 than a Monday release would since it's bound to debut on airplay alone anyway.
She needs to sell about 220-260k in the first three days to get the Hot 100 #1, depending on the strength of the airplay
She wouldn't have debuted at #1 anyway with just the five days of airplay. I've actually warmed up to the idea of putting it on iTunes right away. Gives it a chance to be buzzing all weekend and cuts off any unnecessary pirated downloads (people who would have bought it on iTunes if available, but then never get around to actually doing that once they've downloaded it illegally) right off at the knees.
If the Grammy performance focuses on just Born This Way then they should send it to the UK music channels to play until the real video is released. Having a video out is very important in the UK and using a live performance as the video worked really well with Alicia's ESOM Part II so I don't see why they shouldn't do it with this
