It's kinda crazy that the negative reviews (like Louise Keller) love Anne and that's what a lot of people were the most worried about.

An overwhelming majority of people I speak to about this movie are worried about her role as catwoman while almost every review at this point praises her performance.

These for instance (from the same review):
"Anne Hathaway is the best thing in this tediously overlong, disappointing final chapter of Christopher Nolan’s Batman Trilogy"
"I found Hathaway, wearing her skin-tight black vinyl or little black dress, pearls and stilettos, the most invigorating and fresh element in the film"
"delighting in the impudence of Hathaway’s sexy, thieving Catwoman"

I thought it was doing better than 'The Dark Knight'

IT won't have a better score than TDK, it's not going to happen. Some critics can't get pass the fact that both movies are different, but don't worry, it's going to be epic.

The main complaints I see are that they feel like its too long with a lot of stuff going on and they say that Bane is just pure brute and not charismatic like the Joker. Bane is supposed to be pure brute. He just gives no ****s and Tom obviously did that well. They also seem to hate that there's no standout character even though they found it to be a problem last movie that the Joker was a standout.
But anyways, new review coming in from the Washington Post (positive)

Really, there is no need to fret or fly off the handle about “The Dark Knight Rises” because it is the most compelling film of the summer. Yes, it’s better than “The Avengers.” In my view it will not disappoint even those who, one year ago, marked the July 20 release date on their Microsoft Outlook calendars, then blocked out all of July 21 with an appointment entitled: “Stop Living, as Life’s Purpose Will Have Been Fulfilled.” Post film critic Ann Hornaday is in the process of filing a review that will be published online later this afternoon.

But Nolan’s novelistic epic also boasts some of the most outstanding action set pieces in the 21st Century, all the more ‘wow’-some for their minimal CGI, plus some totally ace new Bat toys. Bold and beautiful. A superhero movie with true muscle power.

Also interesting to note (I saw this on SHH):
"it has an 86% (not extremely high), yet as of now it has an average of a 8.7/10. (which is higher than TDK, BB, Avengers) So it seems that those who like it, really like it."

Rotten Tomatoes
Consensus:
Quote:
The Dark Knight Rises is an ambitious, thoughtful, and potent action film that concludes Christopher Nolan's franchise in spectacular fashion, even if it fails to meet the high standard set by its predecessor.

In one of those negative reviews (I think you posted a link to the review) someone commented that they [the reviewer] need to accept that Heath Ledger died and wouldn't be coming back for this film and sounds like it's true. If they were going to rate this film based on the last, that had Heath's performance, anything would've looked like it wasn't enough.

I agree, but they might change it when it has more reviews and if the movie gets a higher rating.

"Rises is now the highest tracking movie of the last year (all time?) ahead of Hunger Games and The Avengers. It's on track for a 185m+ opening weekend, the only think that might hold it back from breaking the Avengers record is the lack if 3D ticket sales. "

"Among other possibilities, Anne Hathaway's sensational introduction as Catwoman makes a stand-alone movie for her enticing. Damn, the girl's good in the physical aspects of her cat burglar role, as well as being sexy and funny whether playing Selina Kyle or her feline alter-ego."

Empire -
"As slinky burglar Selina Kyle, Anne Hathaway is superb: physically dangerous, emotionally intriguing and sexy without milking it. (It’s a very different take from the Catwoman portrayed by Michelle Pfeiffer, but no less enjoyable.) As ambiguous as Kyle is, her journey shares with Wayne’s a sense of struggling for a fresh start, for a clean slate, ultimately for redemption."

HitFlix -
"One of the things that has made this series work has been the casting of pretty much every key role, and that continues here. Anne Hathaway's interpretation of Selina Kyle, known best as Catwoman to most fans, is indelible, a strong and savvy match for Bruce Wayne, and instead of just being a flip-side mirror to him as she often is portrayed, she is instead presented here as the masked and angry face of the forgotten and the poor, justified in whatever she does because of the way life has treated her. She would have been enough of a character to support an entire film, but Nolan uses her as one part of the thesis of the movie, with Bane, the strange terrorist played by Tom Hardy, as the blunt instrument that drives the point home."

AwardsCircuit -
"As the cat burglar, never called Cat Woman, Anne Hathaway is a revelation giving the film a burst of humor, sexiness, and a playful quality the film needs. Anything this dark needs some light humor, something to break the intensity and Hathaway provides it. For me, she was more realistic, more grounded than Pfeiffer as Cat Woman, and yet every bit as sexy. She is proving she can be an electrifying actress, capable of dominating a film, even something like this filled with so much happening on-screen."

ShowBiz411 -
The film is somber, and there aren’t many laughs, so Anne Hathaway is a welcome relief as Selina aka Catwoman. As she’s done in films like “Rachel Getting Married,” Hathaway is expert at conveying humor in dramatic moments. Her Catwoman/Selina is as good as Heath Ledger’ Joker–she nails Selina’s grappling with being very very bad and also sort of adoring Batman. Julie Newmar and all the other Cat-women will be proud.

ComingSoon -
Anne Hathaway plays one of the more alluring Catwomen since Julie Newmar, creating an incredibly complex character that straddles the line of good and bad enough that you never know whose side she's on. Hathaway sometimes takes on a similarly affected way of delivering lines as Bale's Batman when in costume, but neither of the "villains" ever can quite live up to what the late Heath Ledger brought to the Joker.

WashingtonPost -
1. Remember when everyone freaked out online about Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman ears?
If you didn’t find that ridiculous last September during the Internet “controversy” that ensued, you definitely will realize what a waste of time it was once you see “Dark Knight Rises.” A) The ears could not be more minor in the wide spectrum — and with its 165-minute running time, it is a very wide spectrum— of this film. B) I thought the ears — which are really goggles that resemble cat ears in what is practically the only blatant Catwoman reference in the movie — are pretty cool.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...0ZrW_blog.html
IGN -
While she doesn’t quite steal the show as Heath Ledger’s Joker did, Hathaway’s Catwoman is a magnetic presence whenever she’s onscreen and she has great chemistry with Bale. This is a more realistic take on the feline femme fatale than what Michelle Pfeiffer did 20 years ago, yet this Selina Kyle retains those key traits (the sly humor, the sexiness, the fighting prowess and stealth) that fans love about the comic book character. Selina may be the proverbial good bad girl, the thief with a heart of gold, but Hathaway imbues her with a wounded spirit and a survivor’s edge that makes her feel genuine and sympathetic even when she’s being naughty.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/07/...t-rises-review
Variety -
Perhaps the riskiest casting choice was that of Hathaway in the potentially problematic role of Selina/Catwoman, but although her kitty outfit reps a slightly more cartoonish touch than Nolan's neo-noir aesthetic typically allows (if nowhere near as campy as those worn by Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer), the versatile actress nails the sardonic, hard-edged tone necessary to make this morally ambiguous vixen a dynamic foil for the Caped Crusader.

DigitalSpy -
Hathaway effortlessly slinks through the performance, turning on seductive charm one moment then switching into a brutal ass-kicker the next. All concerns abut her performance evaporate after her
first encounter with a hobbling Bruce at Wayne Manor.
http://www.digitalspy.com/movies/rev...-the-hype.html
"Nolan’s Catwoman is the best cinematic rendering of the character to date, allowing Anne Hathaway sex appeal, humor and real humanity in equal measures, not to mention motivation that places her on equal footing with her male counterparts without making her a fetish object who’s ultimately subject to them”
Forbes -
Anne Hathaway and her character — Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman — faced a lot of uncertainty and skepticism from a segment of fanboys who were either torn or outright negative regarding her casting and, later, her costume. When those fans see this film, all but the most stubborn will have to eat an awful lot of crow, because it’s hard to imagine a more perfect on-screen incarnation of Catwoman. Hers is one of the best characters of the entire franchise, interesting and complex and fun, and Hathaway deserves major credit for such an iconic portrayal.

LA Times -
And Anne Hathaway: Why were they hiding her in the previews? Because she was an incredible surprise. What a great job she did. Gangly and wobbly? Not a bit. She was sleek and sexy.

I've already booked my tickets and my sister's. I hyped it to all my friends and they are coming to see it with us. It better be good. The reviews are a little turn off but at the same time some of them just seem biased. I'm excited nonetheless.
