Really pleased to see Laura Mvula here. I liked "Sing to the Moon" and I only heard Overcome from the new album. Just listened to Phenomenal Woman and she seems to be evolving in the right direction.
I got into K-pop this year as well, and Whistle was one of the songs that I liked. I agree with everything in your write-up.
Oh wow, same Whistle is a cute bop but I prefer Boombayah.
Boombayah kind of got old for me quickly but it's still better than the Square Two sings which I wasn't really feeling. Perched to see what they do next though, they certainly have potential.

Agree on Laura, I thought her debut was cute but pretty unremarkable, The Dreaming Room has more personality and it's just simply a more interesting body of work. Can't wait to hear what she does next.

The Dreaming Room is one of my fave albums this year, her delivery and song structure could be a little off putting at first but now I'm in love with her. The whole thing is so cathartic. And visuals in her videos, ugghhhh She released a special edition of TDR like two weeks ago but I haven't gotten around to the new tracks yet.

Yeah, there is a lot of middling stuff but eye still took more out of it than US/UK mainstream pop this year tbh.
