The first of the top half of Calvin's entries is bowing here at #90. I'm not a fan of John Newman whatsoever, but I knew that Calvin can make anyone sound good with his productions. And he did that with John on this song. For one song only I was able to ignore John's annoying voice (a voice that rl231 overpraises as being amazing). However, once the album came out, it was clear that this song was one of the weaker songs in it.
Fifth of eight appearances by Calvin Harris. Only appearance by John Newman
89. Zedd f. Matthew Koma & Miriam Bryant - Find You
For some reason, some people on this forum fell in love with this song enough to make it a winner in my A List 40 game. At the time, it wasn't a winner I wanted because I thought this song was basic as hell. I still think it is, but there is one consolation: Miriam makes this song. Matthew Koma has no presence and Zedd has produced in this same ass key before. That's probably why this song only peaked at #25 on my countdown, despite being on it for a complete 20 week cycle. This song sounds better with age though, but not enough to chart higher.
Final appearances of Zedd and Matthew Koma. Only appearance of Miriam Bryant
88. Mandy Rain - Riot!
We now have a song from an old friend of mine from 8th Grade/Freshman year. She dropped out of school to be a part of the School Gyrls group that was on Nickelodeon. Then she went solo and was on Def Jam records before being dropped. By chance I ran into her in January of this year at the mall. We caught up for a little bit...and then she took the chance to promote this song that coming out . And it was Riot!. I had some money on me so I preordered it and got it the day of release. It's actually a decent song, although it feels weird to hear someone you knew at one point in your life releasing music. The really hilarious part about this though is that she tries really hard to promote her music through all of our mutual friends and my friend Amanda's boyfriend Billy said "hasn't your album been coming out for years now" . Well, I wish Mandy the best of luck.
Only appearance by Mandy Rain
87. The Summer Set - Jukebox (Life Goes On)
The first of three appearances by this band. I got into them pretty late but this song is pretty cute. My only problem (which is why it ranks here) is that the lyrics don't realistically make sense to me. Saying that life goes on just because of rejecting someone's offer for a drink is kind of cheesy. Otherwise this song is a bop. I'm sure potentbreakupsong is didn't read this because he got lost in Bryan's cuteness
First of three appearances by The Summer Set
86. DJ Snake & Lil Jon - Turn Down For What
Another song that has a sick beat, but very few lyrics to latch onto. If I was still in high school, I know this song would probably have been a dance floor hit at MORP and Luau. But I'm in high school anymore and I haven't been to a club. So I guess you can say this song fell under the radar to me. But it's still a bop.
Only appearances by DJ Snake & Lil Jon
85. David Guetta f. Skylar Grey - Shot Me Down
I was really into this song at first. I loved how as soon as she said down, the beat dropped. The drop though was very weak and I got old of this song quickly.
Only appearances by David Guetta & Skylar Grey
84. The Vamps - Hurricane
The best song from The Vamps this year, but I got tired of this song quickly as well. This means that 5SOS is the highest charting boyband this year.
Final appearance of The Vamps
83. Miley Cyrus f. Nelly - 4x4
A song that we thought was going to be a single, but didn't end up happening. It's a shame, because this song is really catchy and had crossover potential.
Second of three appearances by Miley Cyrus. Only appearance of Nelly
82. Lorde - Glory and Gore
A song that gained traction because of TV ads. I like this more than Team and Tennis Court, so I wish it actually got the single treatment.
Third of four appearances by Lorde
81. Demi Lovato f. Cher Lloyd - Really Don't Care
I forgot that Cher Lloyd has six songs . Anyways, poor Demi. She released this song a year too late. I was really into this song a year ago. But I got bored of it and by the time she finally released it, I was already over how immature this song is, despite being so catchy and cute to sing along to. This song would have charted MUCH higher in 2013, but this year, with all the good songs I got into, it had no chance.
Final appearance of Demi Lovato. Fifth of six appearances by Cher Lloyd
Blame is alright... but is really forgettable, a shame for a Calvin song
Turn Down For What was a grower! and I love Glory & Gore! my favorite non-single from Pure Heroine
