I think I prefer We the People... by just a little bit but The Space Program is perfect as well, such a strong opening duo. No Problems and Fool to Love are excellent too.
30. Rihanna, "Work (feat. Drake)" - WER WER WER WER so ****ing good
29. Chance The Rapper, "No Problem (feat. Lil Wayne & 2 Chainz)" - Lovely track for sure!
27. Chairlift, "Polymorphing" - My fave from that album too
26. Niki & The Dove, "So Much It Hurts" - Awesome pick from the album, but I still love the album :/
25. Bon Iver, "33 GOD" - Fave!
23. NAO, "Fool to Love"
21. Banks, "Gemini Feed
20. Beyoncé, "Don't Hurt Yourself (feat. Jack White)"
The way she too it back to "Ring The Alarm" but on steroids. As I was watching Lemonade, I'm not sure which came first "Sorry" or this but once "Don't Hurt Yourself" visual appeared I said "YUP! They [Jay and Bey] are through!" and boy was I the fool.
19. Katy B, "Honey"
Kaytranada essentially gave Katy B a damn near identical production from The Internet's "Girl" but Katy flipped it and made even more seductive. This is so SWV - and if you haven't heard of them kill yourself get in.
18. James Blake, "Modern Soul"
"Modern Soul” is a gorgeous slow-burner starting with some faded piano chords and ends with a nice climax. I just love the beautiful, sorrowful atmosphere he creates with his music. It's the perfect music for most of my long commutes.
17. The Weeknd, "I Feel It Coming (feat. Daft Punk)"
Another Michael Jackson rip-off done successfully. It's catchy, it's sweet, it's warm and fuzzy..Nothing more to say.
16. Blood Orange, "Best to You"
This whole time I had no idea the featured guest was Empress of. She's really given the spotlight, her voice is so beautiful, so yearning and works well with Dev's. This is the top tack of Freetown Sound.
15. Mitski, "Happy"
I love the way this whole song unfolds. Its emotional draining lyrics, her haunting voice and the build ups of empowering sounding instrumentation that contradicts how depressing this song is suppose to actually be. With a song titled "Happy" this is anything but; it's clever.
14. Phantogram, "You Don’t Get Me High Anymore"
What's with all the breakup and hertbreak songs of 2016 being so energetic, upbeat and bombastic? First of all this could have been a breakout radio song for Phantogram and second of all this whole vibe and sound was so unexpected from them. Never thought I'd find Sarah so sexy as she coos over bursting synths.
13. James Blake, "Timeless"
I'm such a sucker for switch-ups in beats/production and boy did "Timeless" have just that. Unlike your typical James Blake tracks this is a hard hitting bop from start to finish; one of my turn up songs.
12. Beyoncé, "Formation"
Context wise it's an anthem of black womanhood and culture. Outside of context it's another fierce anthem for the women and gays alike. I mean, that's BEYONCE in a nutshell. How did it cause that much conversation this time? The outrage over this song, this remarkable video, and performances I guess it really just justifies why it's one of the most acclaimed and talked about pieces in recent time.
11. Jessy Lanza, "It Means I Love You"
At the top of the year 2016 this was probably my favorite song of 2016. What kind of electronic meets New Orleans Bounce? The effortless transitions from section to section on this song and once those airy vocals take center stage at the very end. ACK
20. Beyoncé, "Don't Hurt Yourself (feat. Jack White)"
19. Katy B, "Honey"
18. James Blake, "Modern Soul"
17. The Weeknd, "I Feel It Coming (feat. Daft Punk)"
16. Blood Orange, "Best to You"
15. Mitski, "Happy"
14. Phantogram, "You Don’t Get Me High Anymore"
13. James Blake, "Timeless"
12. Beyoncé, "Formation"
11. Jessy Lanza, "It Means I Love You"
29. Chance The Rapper, "No Problem (feat. Lil Wayne & 2 Chainz)"
28. dvsn, "Too Deep"
27. Chairlift, "Polymorphing"
25. Bon Iver, "33 GOD"
23. NAO, "Fool to Love"
21. Banks, "Gemini Feed"

14. Phantogram, "You Don’t Get Me High Anymore"
13. James Blake, "Timeless"
12. Beyoncé, "Formation"
11. Jessy Lanza, "It Means I Love You"
Those were amazing, it's like 80-90% of your previous two sets I'm glad someone put Too Deep on their list, it was mad good
Another great update! DHY is my favorite from the album. It's ****ing RAAAWWW and I wonder if Jay gets meme-like-PTSD when/if he hears that song.
Honey is a great pick from that album, but it's just below I Wanna Be for me! I Feel It Coming & Best to You >>>>> poor Dev tho, Empress outshining him on the best track on his album
Formation, obviously great. Same with It Means I Love You - that weird voice coming in is so silly in retrospect, but makes the song sound great!
10. Snakehips, "All My Friends (feat. Tinashe & Chance the Rapper)"
This was Tinashe's biggest moment of 2016, while Chance continued to add more to his big year. “All My Friends” is a down-tempo and feel good anthem with a critical message regarding party-goers. The combination between Snakehips‘ beats, Tinashe‘s beautiful vocals and Chance The Rapper‘s unique singing voice and clever lyricism work so well; one of the best collaborations of the year. Not to mention it also has one of the best chanting choruses everyone can sing along to at the top of their lungs.
09. KAYTRANADA, "Lite Spots"
Ever since Jamie X's "Gosh" I've been opening up to producer/DJ records with minimum guest vocals. “Lite Spots” is full of swirl of sounds, styles, breakdowns, and moments where Kaytranada abruptly switches directions and seems to stumble into an entirely different song. I've had this on repeat all year long. This just oozes vibrancy and fun.
08. Solange, "Cranes In The Sky"
One of the most beautiful songs of the year, as well as best vocal performances without Solange having to be a big powerhouse. In fact, with just a drum and some strings "Cranes In The Sky" relies heavily on her voice. This is literally a hymn.
07. Gallant, "Weight in Gold"
We go from what I think is the best female vocal performances to definitely one of the best male voices of 2016. "Weight in Gold" is about feeling like you have all the weight on your shoulders and feeling weighted down by negativity. This is a very powerful track for such a new comer as Gallant's strong vocals soar over this soulful guitar and thundering production during the chorus.
06. Shura, "White Light"
Shura has really made a lane for herself with this debut album. This is such an 80's groove but also has such a windy/airy soundscape, such a beautiful opening and closing and beautiful hidden track at the end. Gorgeous track overall.
05. Kanye West, "Ultralight Beam (feat. Chance the Rapper, The-Dream, Kelly Price, and Kirk Franklin)"
F' Kanye, every guest appearance really contributed to this tracks greatness, unlike the equally great "All of the Alights," where there were 150 vocalists on there for no reason. Chance once again steals the show!
04. Solange, "Don't Touch My Hair (feat. Sampha)"
Whether its school or jobs its never just hair, there have always been restrictions placed upon Black people’s hair as a way for control and a force to assimilate. Solange has no problem with exposing that and uplifting. As far as sound its subtle yet still vibrant and her voice is met by Sampha’s which blends so well. I love everything this song stands for and you cannot deny the visual propels the song even more.
03. NAO, "Girlfriend"
Everything prior to "Girlfriend" has been upbeat, funky and very unique to her sound. NAO proved that she can switch it up with a ballad and show off her vocal ability. She's yearning for a partner and expressing some of her insecurities while doing so. It's such a warm song that I was so smitten with.
02. Ariana Grande, "Into You"
Every year has produced that ONE song that was just pure pop perfection to me ("Run Away With Me" and "Overdose" were two off the top of my head). This wasn't just an attempt to sell sex, Ariana finally sold...flirty (sorry hun you will forever just be cute). Max Martin supplied her with throbbing synths and dance beats suited for her breathy vocals, those high notes, the clubs and the charts - which she deserved much better.
01. The 1975, "Somebody Else"
"Somebody Else" is such a crisp heart-fueled slow jam that packs such a punch. This song's production alone is so hypnotic that you almost forget about the repetitions and length of the track. I had no idea that this would turn out to be my most spinned track of 2016.
10. Snakehips, "All My Friends (feat. Tinashe & Chance the Rapper)"
09. KAYTRANADA, "Lite Spots"
08. Solange, "Cranes In The Sky"

04. Solange, "Don't Touch My Hair (feat. Sampha)"
