I know! Was Idol just too lazy to hire a writer to write another coronation song? I mean, seriously! I loved how in season six they had the writing competition for the coronation song. I thought they should do that for all the seasons.

Yeah, Lee's was a cover of the U2 song, and Crystal's was a cover of Patty Griffin's song. (Which was performed either last year or the year before by Kelly Clarkson on the Idol Gives Back episode.)

The coronation song Kara wrote for Kris was a disaster & critically panned. So I bet the people at Idol wanted to play it safe this year by having Lee cover a song.

Kara never wrote any of the first seven, so why not get those people to do it again? Or do it like they did in the sixth season and have a songwriting contest to pick the coronation song.

...or they could do what I've been wanting Idol to do for years... have the contestants write their own songs.
