#40: Ayumi Hamasaki - Rock 'n' Roll Circus Genre: Pop, Rock Release Date: 04.14.10 Oricon Peak: #1
Japanese pop icon and living legend Ayumi Hamasaki released her 11th studio album this year which saw her returning to her signature pop-rock style after the electronic mess that was her previous album 'NEXT LEVEL'. Staying true to its title the pop-rock tracks are the standouts on this album especially the organ-fused "Microphone" which is very reminiscent to 2006's "kiss o kill". An interesting twist on the album is the Indian-influenced "Don't look back" which is another highlight. Overall the album is a step up from her two previous however her 12th studio album 'Love songs' which was released this month was downgrade from this album.
Aural Vampire is a Japanese electronic duo that features Exo Chiko; the vocalist and Ravemen; the producer. Their image is what first caught my attention but I was blown away once I listened to the album. The album takes you on dark electronic journey that really paints a picture in your head. You can't help but imagine your in some creepy vampire layer while listening to the album.

#38: Travie McCoy - Lazarus Genre: Hip-Hop, Pop Release Date: 06.08.10 Billboard Peak: #25
Gym Class Hereos frontman Travie McCoy released his debut solo album this year and it's easily the most underrated album of the year. What I love most is the variety of genres on the album. He mixed everything from hip-hop, rock, pop & reggae. The rock influenced tracks are the best though ("Superbad" & "Need You").

#37: Kana Nishino - to LOVE Genre: Pop, R&B Release Date: 06.23.10 Oricon Peak: #1
Kana Nishino, the reigning digital queen took Japan by storm this year. Not only did she own the digital charts with all of her singles (even some of her b-sides) her album also became the top selling album by a female this year, even beating out albums from Japanese legends Namie Amuro & Ayumi Hamasaki. Kana is known for her sappy mid-tempos about love and heartache which is very prominent on the album but she also included some party jams like "WRONG", "Come On Yes Yes Oh Yeah!!" & "Summer Girl". The album was a nice upgrade from her debut album and by the looks of it Kana will be snatching J-pop for awhile.
Standouts: "FREE", "Endless Love", "B.F.F.", "I miss you", "Sora" & "Silent Ocean".
Miliyah Kato has been making a name for herself since her debut album 'Rose' back in 2004 and she's slowly but surely becoming on of Japan's top female artists. Infact this album gave her the highest first week sales of her career and it was also the first one of her studio albums to hit #1 on the Oricon album chart. The album features her ususal Pop-R&B style but she also decided to take a dip into the dance craze that's sweeping the world right now. I love the dark vibe on some of the dance tracks especially the haunting "Endless Love". Just as her sales rise with each studio album so does the quality of the albums so I can't wait for her next album!
