Tbh, I only tuned in to see if something was gonna down between Chris, Drake, and Rihanna. But I think the Vmas was really dull. People tune into the Vmas for controversy, performances, and to see who's wearing what, and this Vma had nothing special about it. I mean the biggest controversy is that Rihanna and Chris hugged and kissed. The performances were lackluster, there was no "wow" factor in any of them. The Vmas is the one place where shock n awe is encouraged. And I know that MTV counts on one artist to do something crazy, and unforgettable, but it was like everyone was on their best behavior.
VMA's have always been on a Thursday aside from recent years.
"Aside from recent years"
Point exactly. Of course airing the show on a Thursday after several years of it being aired on a Sunday had some effect on the ratings. It was a whole mixture of things.
if i remember correctly, the AMAs had a very low rating the year Rih opened with a medley and BMA last year did not peak when she and Brit opened either, it did when Bey performed.
MTV announced in May that it would move the show from its 9 p.m. start of the past five years, and start it at 8, so as to be wrapped by the time Obama gave his acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention.
There was a lack of major starpower, that's what award shows live on and it failed this time.
2009 had the MJ tribute, Beyonce and Gaga.
2010 had Eminem, Bieber and Gaga.
2011 had Beyonce, Britney and Gaga
2012 had Rihanna, Katy and Lil Wayne....just not on the same level, no shade.
