What do stans do when Madonna slays their faves?
They try and add context.
"In this country my fave has sold more" "in this source my fave has more certified albums" etc etc etc.
Madonna is the top selling female recording artist of all time. There's no if's but's or loopholes. If it makes you feel better to talk about how your fave managed a high number of sales in a particular country, I feel like you should be making your own thread because this thread is about Madonna and her WORLD WIDE units.
Anyways, the stat that is interesting to me is the 1.5 billion from touring. Given S&S tour numbers and the MDNA tour numbers and the fact Madonna's next tour is a special anniversary tour she could easily bring that career tour gross up to almost 2 billion. Madonna's next tour will probably gross an amount all the stans on this site celebrate their fave reaching after 10 years - in ONE tour.

I mean. I thought this was common knowledge
Madonna has Celine in overall records but not raw CD sales.
And since Rolland is using Wiki.

I would trust the people at UKMix who spend half their lives creating sales estimations over that Wiki page which doesn't even include any Asian countries (other than Japan) where we know both Mariah and Celine outsold Madonna

Only no one is using Wikipedia. You can go to the OP and see the numbers are totally different from the ones shown in Wiki. Like I said, those certified units are based on certifications around the world from associations affiliated to the IFPI.
Are you really saying those are untrue when they are featured in their official sites? ffff to the bold part: that's exactly what I meant about certified units vs estimated sales and you said I was being illogical.
You're a ****ing JOKE! Just leave, you're embarrassing yourself.
Only I am NOT using Wikipedia. That figure about 168.5 million units certified is based on OFFICIAL certifications around the world, recognized by the IFPI. So, IFPI is lying and you're telling the truth? ffff, sure.
Even if we pass those 122 million certified units as albums, Madonna has way more (143 million) and with 23 less albums than Céline, yet you say the later has sold more. Let me applaud your logic.
I wonder why these MC stans had to resort to use Céline instead of their fave, I wonder.

As I said earlier, this is common knowledge to everyone except Madonna stans apparently.

The Canadian Music Industry on the International Scene
Canada has established a solid reputation for producing music artists with worldwide commercial appeal. Over the past decade, Canada's top ten recent international success stories together have sold 359.5 million units around the world, grossing around $5.4 billion (US), based on average retail price of $15 (US) per album. Leading the way is Céline Dion, with sales of 150 million units since 1995, followed by Shania Twain (70 million), Alanis Morissette (45 million), and Avril Lavigne (20 million).

Mind you, that excerpt is from 2002. When Celine received the Diamond award @ the WMA's 2 years later, she was introduced as the best selling female artist. And has always been stated to have sold over 200M albums (as well as Madonna), but 200M is the MAX CAP for Madge, whereas Celine has over 30 other releases untallied. And for w/e reason no one ever counts Titanic's OST huge #'s.
This is the charts section hunty, I'm not "using" any1, I'm correcting you.
But, I could always give you the UKMix 200+ page threads if you're still not a believer.

What 30 Celine albums are not certified? LOL
I doubt her French albums would make much difference. She's sold more than Whitney/Mariah yes but not Madge.

this is another interesting article that has value to the topic.. to all the people who think she's a narcissist
The reason why mariah picked up biggest selling female award at the WMA's, was because Madonna refused it
It has been mentioned here that Madonna apparently refused the citation of the World Music Awards (2000) as the ‘Biggest Selling Artist’ of the Millennium’. The reason why she has done that cannot be known. Thus, 2 other female artists received the honor instead of her. Madonna once said that she wanted to rule the world back in the 80’s & now she still hasn’t changed her tone. In a recent interview Madonna was asked if she has accomplished that feat & she replied no.
Madonna’s refusal of the World Music Awards has caused a confusion of who is really the ‘Biggest Selling Female’ of all time. Nowadays, fans endlessly bicker about his topic but if you look at their discography you could tabulate that Madonna sold a combined 300 million compared to Mariah Carey’s 230 million & Celine Dion’s 220 million. Some say Celine Dion is the biggest seller & some say Mariah Carey because they received the distinction before. Michael Jackson received the award of ‘Biggest Selling Artist’ because Elvis Presley & the Beatles aren’t present today. If only Madonna accepted the award then it would solidify what the Guinness & IFPI has confirmed.

Madonna had the best timing of all the divas and stayed healthy unlike my fave Whitney.
I don't get the hate towards the other legends. Madonna's achievements are indeed unmatched and outstanding and she truly is the #1 female of all times on all fronts imaginable.
However, nobody will ever sell those 175m albums that Céline sold either, or even those 150m that Mariah shifted during her career so far, or 145m of Whitney or 135m of Barbra... the closest thing on albums sales to those legends is actually Britney at 85m, Shania at 80m and Janet at roughly 70m.
Sales are dead now and the string of epic evergreen mega smash albums between my favourite divas: Madonna, Whitney, Céline, janet and Mariah is unmatched.
can you imagine artists getting back to back album which sold over 20m albums (like in Whitney's, Madonna's or Mariah's cases) or over 30m like in Céline's case? And then topping out of their peak with another 10-15m sellers? lol..
Madonna is the absolute queen and her achievements when we hold them against her peers, are even more outstanding as much as her peers' achievements are outstanding as well. Madonna faced some serious competition of actually outstanding acts, not like today when Adele has to go against acts who often have no talent at all (Miley) or rely on subpar releases (Ariana), or "artists" with no creative input whatsoever (Rihanna - sorry, but recording an album in 2 weeks speaks volumes in that respect).
Madonna's new album will most likely smash and add another 2m to her already unbelievable total and I will buy that 200m albums sales figure when Rebel Heart has reached that mark.

according to my own estimations these are the top 3
1. Madonna over 300m records sold
2. Céline Dion 225m records sold (175m + 50m)
3. Mariah Carey 215m records sold (150m + 65m)
4. Whitney Houston 215m records sold (145m + 70m)

Madonna is on her way to extending her record as the woman with the most top 40 singles in U.K. chart history.
Quote:
Following her show-closing performance on the Brit Awards (Feb. 25), Madonna is set to debut in the top 40 of the Official U.K. Singles Chart on Sunday (March 1) with "Living For Love." The Official Charts Company reported that it would mark the diva's 71st top 40 hit. It would also extend her record as the woman with the most top 40 singles in U.K. chart history.
As the song was released on Feb. 25, it will debut on the Official U.K. Singles Chart with only three full days of sales (the tracking week ends at midnight on Saturday each week). "Living For Love" is the lead single from Madonna's 13th studio album, Rebel Heart, due out March 9 in the U.K. and March 10 in the U.S.
The Official Charts Company said on Feb. 27 that "Living For Love" is about 1,000 downloads away from the top 20, and nearly 11,000 copies separates the single from the top 10.
Madonna's last U.K. top 40 single came with 2012's "Give Me All Your Luvin'," featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., which peaked at No. 37.
Madonna's first U.K. top 40 hit came almost exactly 31 years ago, on the chart dated Jan. 15, 1984, when "Holiday" climbed 53-40 in its second week on the chart.

After less than two days on sale, the singer’s latest release is currently placed at Number 26, according to today’s Official Charts Company sales flash (February 27). She's just over 1,000 chart sales away from the Top 20, while another 10,500 would see her enter the Top 10.

Mediatraffic updated their estimates.
'Madonna' (1983) 9,5 million
'Like A Virgin' (1984) 21 million
'True Blue' (1986) 23 million
'Who's That Girl' (1987) 5 million
'You Can Dance' (1987) 5 million
'Like A Prayer' (1989) 14 million
'The Immaculate Collection' (1990) 27 million
'I'm Breathless Soundtrack' (1990) 6,5 million
'Erotica' (1992) 6,5 million
'Bedtime Stories' (1994) 8 million
'Something To Remember' (1995) 8 million
'Evita Soundtrack' (1996) 6,5 million
'Ray Of Light' (1998) 15 million
'Music' (2000) 11 million
'GHV2' (2001) 5,5 million
'Remixed & Revisited' (2003) 1 million
'American Life' (2003) 4 million
'Confessions On A Dance Floor' (2005) 10 million
'I'm Going To Tell You A Secret' (2006) 0,8 million
'Confessions Tour' (2007) 1,3 million
'Hard Candy' (2008) 4 million
'Celebration' (2009) 2,5 million
'Sticky & Sweet Tour' (2010) 0,5 million
'MDNA' (2012) 2 million
'MDNA World Tour' (2013) 0,3 million
You have Celebration at 500k lower than their estimates.
Also, Mediatraffic states that all of these are underestimated:
