We're talking about pop music. I stated my opinion on her music before. What you just posted was a personal attack to Gaga and that is not okay.
Don't be shady, be a lady.

And she still slayed with number ones during both of those breaks.
Let me break if down for ya.
2008 - Live your life
2008 - Take A bow
2008 - Disturbia
2010 - Rude Boy
2010 - Only Girl
2010 - What's My Name?
2011 - S&M
2011 - We Found Love
2012 - Diamonds
2013 - The monster.
Try a biT harder with that albums argument. It doesn't matter if she's still slaying,

Katy has had 3 #1s since 2012 and 5 since 2011, whereas Rih has had 2 #1s since 2012 and 4 since 2011. That's not the same amount

When did sales ever come into this... That has NOTHING to do with this thread.

No, the analogy works. You can't use a hypothetical principle ("She could be a complex pop artist") to support your claim based in reality ("therefore she isn't basic!")

Katycats we need to calm down. We are literally the new monsters.

thank you!!! a katy kat with some damn sense!!!!!! this is exactly what i've been saying!!! if anything the PRISM era has proved that she can't keep using the same formula. she's already had 2 songs under perform. Next album there's a chance she won't score any hits. so you guys need to calm down! it's nice to stan for your fave but some of you guys are becoming unbearable and making people want to drag katy.

How in the world is that delusional?
Kelly was coming off of a huge breakthrough era, and instead of making an album that would be likely to sustain that success, she wrote the entire album by herself with some indie songwriters/producers, ended up with a darker, not very commercial album with few potential "hits", fought her label hard to release it because they didn't want to, etc. That was a big risk.

Oh my, the logic
Asking me whether I can read or not when that question should be directed to you yourself....
WHEN did I ever say Rihanna wasn't slaying? You're saying that Rihanna is the one that got the same number of #1s as Katy in the same timespan of her (which would be 3 albums) and then you post singles that have went #1 in 2012 and 2013
NINE #1s in the FIRST THREE albums, do you get it?

But I already stated that she HAS indeed OUTPUT material that isn't basic.
Just like every person on this earth, she has different sides to her persona! It isn't hard to understand!

Wow, what remixes are you talking about? Please do provide some receipts, because I am very curious to know!
Yes, Katy did make remixes, but all her singles went #1 from their original versions, LFN, TD and so on say hello!
Do you want to talk about Rihanna's Good Girl Gone Remixed album or nah?
Also how are remixes a sign that "you're basic" or whatever ? It's still music being released by the artist, she is getting that #1 regardless (even though Katy didn't need the remixes for that).
Well idk about you but I know damn well that me, most people in here and even the big girls in the industry would rather have the recurrent #1s (aka $$) and the relevancy any day over the grammys.
|
Firstly, I said Katy was showing signs of decline. And I was right. From a 5 million seller to a 1 million seller is a sign of decline. I didn't outright called Uncle a flop, because it wasn't. So don't go around twisting my words up.
Secondly, You wanted proof of her remixing her tracks? Here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teenage...#Track_listing
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_Fr...#Track_listing
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E.T._%2...gs_and_formats
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_One...Track_listings
Thirdly, the GGGB remix album barely did anything to boost it's sales so don't try it.
Lastly, I would rather have a Grammy tbh. It shows that your work is getting critical acclaim and that it's something special and unique. Not something that will probably be replicated in a year or two.

Because she doesn't offer anything interesting. She makes corporate pop music and yes sometimes its catchy but shes completely and utterly surface level. Which has its place in entertainment, but these days theres a lot of artists and pop artists that show range and generally peoples interest in music has broadened so much. In a world of endless choices, Katy Perry is vanilla ice cream with flavorless colorful sprinkles. Shes camp but shes dull. Her voice, her performances, her choice of music, her fashion, everything is so unextraordinary.
And I can't with people saying she doesn't sell sex. She very much does sell sex, she just makes it so corny and cringeworthy it gets a pass which almost makes it more vulgar because people allow their 8 year old to sing "its time to bring out the big balloons".

Let's be real, Katy won't ever see GGGB Numbers, Or even loud numbers again.

Rihanna will?
She did it in 2007/2008 where album sales were bigger and single sales were lower. And Loud only sold 500k more than TD.
And all her #1 iconic hit singles are not promo? Don't be a fool, Stay and Diamonds were huge hits, We Found Love too, and her album sales are always decent, only two of her albums had remarkable sales.

How is Katy basic?
She changed the game with her Trap anthem, "Dark Horse" and her speech anthem, "Unconditionally". The people calling ha basic must be haters, cause all I can see is a future icon.

I'm not even a Katy stan, it just made me cackle when people play the basicness or "she takes no risk!!1!" card on Katy.
If that's not worse they compare it to Rihanna as if they're any different in terms of risk-taking
|
If you actually believe that i feel sorry for you. Rihanna has took plenty of more risks in her career than Katy. Just look at rihannas leas singles then look at Katys. Would Katy dare to try releasig something like Russian Roulette for a lead single? Would she release something like Diamonds for a lead single, ever? The answer is no, please don't compare the two , rihanna has been taking risks all through her career which is why most people see her as far from basic as you can get. Just look at Rihannas dark album Rated R and compare it with Katys supposed dark album Prism, do they both seem similarly risky to you?
