Leona Lewis has laughed off rumours she is lonely and miserable in Los Angeles, insisting she has gradually fallen for the City of Angels.
The X Factor winner, 24, has been based in California for most of this year, meaning she has spent little time in her beloved Hackney, east London with her long-term boyfriend Lou Al-Chamaa.
But in a new magazine interview, the stunning singer insists she is happy with new life Stateside and denied reports her relationship with Lou was on the rocks.
Speaking of her home Stateside, she said: 'When I first came here I wasn’t sure if I liked it. It’s taken a while because I love being at home with my family and I miss them when they’re not here.'
Shrugging off recent media attention of her apparent weight gain, Leona insists she doesn't care what people think 'as long as I'm healthy.'
But despite her defiance over her weight, Leona covers up in the accompanying photoshoot wearing a black tuxedo jacket of a floor-length satin gown.
She explained: 'We’re all different and we’re all supposed to be different.
'When you’re famous, you can’t win - you’re either too skinny or not skinny enough.'
Addressing her good girl image, which some may find boring in the world of rock 'n' roll, Leona said she doesn't mind being seen as clean cut.
She said: 'People are always saying, "She’s really sweet" - and it’s like, I’ve been brought up properly by my parents and I’m respectful to people.
'So I think, "What, is it bad to be a good person?" I don’t think so.
'I’m quite quiet and it takes me a while to come out of myself and be comfortable. But just because I’m polite and nice doesn’t mean I can be pushed over. I know my own mind and I know what I will and won’t do.'
While Leona flies home to London every chance she can, she admits she finds it difficult conducting a relationship over a 5,000 mile distance.
She said: 'Obviously, a long-distance relationship is hard. But, like anything worth having, you make it work.
'You just have to keep the communication open - we Skype, we chat, we email. And he comes out when he can.'
Earlier this summer, it emerged some of her new album tracks had been leaked online.
The songs, entitled Brave and I Got You, were reportedly stolen by hackers who posted them on the internet.
The singer has recently completed her second album and is hoping to repeat the phenomenal success of her debut Spirit.
The full interview with Leona appears in the October issue of Cosmopolitan magazine, on sale now.
