You guys keep talking about ratios then vs now, past vs present etc etc...but couldn't the same be said for Britney? If she released 10 years before she did, wouldn't her sales be higher? How is it fair to rule the exception out for her, when music is readily more accessible for people of all generations to
purchase than ever before.
Britney's sales in 1998/1999 weren't the rule, they were an exception...that's why her closest peers didn't do half of the sales she did.
Not to mention, she sold TWO 20 million selling albums back to back! One of which opened with 1 Million plus, and as we have seen, that was also an exception..not the rule, as Taylor and GaGa both have done that today. She kept her momentum, will Adele?

Gaga promotes just as much (and for some, even more) as my favs, get out.
