In 2 weeks we'll be celebrating the 5th anniversary of the release of Taylor Swift's debut single called "Tim McGraw" so I decided to make this survivor. Just in praise of the long winding road she's gone through all these years to get to where she is now. As the game goes on I'll be posting some short flashbacks and memories of her career, if you want to share your opinions or personal recaps, feel free to do so. Enjoy it and thanks for your support!

"Teardrops On My Guitar"
2nd single from the album: Taylor Swift
This song gave a big fight in this game, but after being struggling for the last 4 rounds it was finally eliminated. About this song, all we can say is that it's one of Taylor's signature songs and one of her most personal. It was written about her long time high school crush Drew Hardwick who she had fallen deeply in love with but was so afraid to reveal her feelings to. Eventually he attempted to call her but she never answered, too bad! But thank you Drew, you are the inspiration for one of her most memorable songs! |
ELIMINATED.

"White Horse"
2nd single from the album: Fearless
This song was composed a year before the Fearless era, Taylor started writting it by herself but she needed help to finish it, so she called her friend Liz Rose and both finished the song in just 45 minutes. She has always thought of it as a counterpart to Love Story. The song was inspired by a boyfriend who she perceived to be a Prince Charming and, in the downfall of the relationship, then realized he was not. | #06 |
"Fearless"
5th single from the album: Fearless
Taylor conceived this song while touring as opening act in order to promote her debut debut album, Taylor Swift. While writing the song, she was not dating anyone or even in the beginning stages of dating anybody. She wrote the song after she analyzed the ideology of what was the best first date for her. Eventually this song inspired the whole path to her following smash era. The song went top 10 two years before it's official release in the USA. | #07 |
"Should've Said No"
5th single from the album: Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift wrote the song when she was 16 years old. She was inspired to write it after she discovered that her boyfriend at the time had cheated on her. In several interviews, Taylor disclosed that this boyfriend's name was "Sam", which she did not put in the song, but said in every interview. The first line that came to her was the title, and she wrote the chorus in five minutes. She has also said that many of the lyrics were based on actual words that she used when confronting her then-boyfriend. | #08 |
"Mine"
1st single from the album: Speak Now
Released as the first single from her latest album, "Mine" did not disappoint. The song was written about an unnamed lover of Taylor, and it is about what would happen if she stopped running from love and let her guard down. As soon as it was released the song rocketed straight to #1 in itunes in record time and Taylor became the 2nd female artist in history to have multiple tracks debuting in the top 5 in a single calendar year. | #09 |
"Our Song"
3rd single from the album: Taylor Swift
Taylor self-penned "Our Song" for the talent show of her freshman year in high school with no intentions of including it on her debut album. She thought to herself that to be appropriate for the talent show, the song she would write needed to be upbeat and relateable to her classmates. It took her only 20 minutes in the writting process, eventually it was released as her 3rd single and reached top 20. | #10 |
"Picture To Burn"
4th single from the album: Taylor Swift
Taylor's always a good girl, but when someone breaks her heart they better run. This song was the first proof of that. The lyrics describe how Taylor is holding a grudge against her ex-boyfriend (whom she describes as "just another picture to burn"). And well in the music video it was not just a picture what she was feeling like burning... | #11 |
"The Story Of Us"
4th single from the album: Speak Now
At the 2010 CMT Music Awards, Taylor encountered an ex-boyfriend of hers. The two were seated a couple from each other, but were unwilling to speak to each other, although they both had much to say. Acting like they didn't care at all. Back at home, Taylor felt awful , ran towards her bedroom and that was the night when "The Story Of Us" was born. Chosen as the 4th single from Speak Now, this song is still being promoted on pop radios. | #12 |
"Today Was A Fairytale"
Promo single from the album: Valentine's Day OST
Taylor solely wrote "Today Was Fairytale" in the summer of 2008 while touring for the Fearless era and stored it away for a while. After being cast as Felicia Miller on Valentine's Day, she offered the song to the film producers for the soundtrack as she did not believe it fit on her upcoming album. However the song was perfect for the movie and rapidly became a sucess debuting at #2 on the Hot 100 without a single performance or radio spin. | #13 |
"Fifteen"
4th single from the album: Fearless
Despite being a 19-year old song writter, Taylor stated that the age of fifteen was the age where she had learnt the most from life. The result? You got it, a brand new song. Fifteen depicts the events in her freshman year in high school and how she met her best friend Abigail Anderson. Eventually it was released as a single, it was performed at the 52nd Grammy's ceremony and reached top 25. | #14 |
"Change"
Promo single from the album: Fearless
When Taylor was first signed to Big Machine Records, it was a new and extremely small record label, that consisted of approximately twelve employees and her as the only signed artist. Eventually she realized that it would be very difficult for her to breakthrough in such a small label and things would have to "change". That's where the inspiration came for this song.
It was included in the AT&T Team USA Soundtrack and became Taylor's first ever top 10 single. | #15 |
"Mean"
3rd single from the album: Speak Now
Did you Taylor Swift haters actually expected to get away without getting your names in a song? Well, not exactly. Taylor expressed that "Mean" is a response to people who constantly criticize whatever she does and she also indicated that this song was meant to appeal people of all ages in different situations, something everybody can relate to. Despite several complains from fans, it was finally chosen as the 3rd official single from Speak Now in North America and it's currently being promoted even though it already hit top 20 when the album was released. | #16 |
"Crazier"
Promo single from the album: Hannah Montana The Movie OST
The song's appearance in Hannah Montana: The Movie came about after filmmakers approached Taylor about using her music in the film. Film officials emailed her asking for a song "that was perfect to fall in love to". Although it was not written intentionally for the film, Taylor sent in "Crazier" and the filmmakers "loved it". The scene where she performs the song in the movie was cut off and instead it was released as an official music video. It peaked at #17 in the Hot 100. | #17 |
"Tim McGraw"
1st single from the album: Taylor Swift
Ironically, the first Taylor Swift single ever is the first of hers to be eliminated from this game. But that's okay considering it was just the beginning. The song was written about Taylor Swift's former boyfriend who was a senior year student. She knew they were eventually going to break up, so she decided to make a song to make him remember her. Isn't it cute? | #18 |
"Two Is Better Than One"
2nd single from the album: Love Drunk
Second single released from Boys Like Girls' album "Love Drunk", eventually it went to become their biggest hit to date, as well as Taylor Swift's 21st top 40 entry. However, I still havent forgiven them for not including Taylor in the music video. ¬¬ | #19 |
"Half Of My Heart"
3rd single from the album: Battle Studies
In 2009 John Mayer personally tweeted about this song he had just written and he also expressed his big desire to sing it with Taylor who by that time was only 19. Nobody knows exactly what happened behind close doors. But the song "Dear John" answered a lot of questions one year later. The music video does not feature Taylor and went to become a top 30 hit in the USA. | #20 |
"Best Days Of Your Life"
2nd single from the album: Kellie Pickler
This was the very first vocal collaboration of Taylor Swift released as a single. For this song, ex american Idol Kellie Pickler was inspired by a recent break up with her boyfriend, and there was no better crying shoulder than her friend and fellow country singer Taylor Swift. As you probably noticed in the music video, you may not want to mess with a country girl's heart. The song went top 10 in the country chart and it's certified platinum. |
