" ... you need to be confident in your entries or no one else will be. your entry did not stand out to me this round. sorry.

First of all, I want to establish one thing: If you sent in an all-time list, I will NOT punish you for it. That's perfectly acceptable. Now, with that out of the way, I enjoyed your description for "Dancing Queen", as I felt as if I could relate to how you grew to love that song. I had a similar experience with "Good Vibrations" by the Beach Boys. As for the other four descriptions, I think that you described what you like about the songs pretty well, but the descriptions themselves could have been better, particularly for #2 and #3. I also felt as if you were inconsistent somewhat. You made mention of your personal connection with #1, but what about the other four songs? I think that this had the makings of a pretty strong entry, but it was lacking in a few spots.

It’s like the ranking could have been in any order besides your #1. What you said about Dancing Queen was beautiful, I was touched, and it’s such a classic song.

Despite this, however, your visual style and the impact of your words just feel strong and worthy of being listened to or read. I especially loved the description for STIUTK, particularly the last sentence. It sums up the success of the song perfectly. Almost sounds like something I would say in one of my Best of threads, actually.

That's huge. I felt that you could have done better, but you touched on one of the aspects that I was looking for in these entries.

You also finally made me realize why I enjoy "Call Me Maybe": It's just such a cheery and catchy song that you can't help but like it. Good work overall.

And you're right that you don't HAVE to have a diverse taste to be a top member. This is definitely true. I can feel the passion for your entries as well, and that's HUGE, even without the personal element. The presentation could have been better, though.

I thought it was interesting that it seemed as if you had more passion for #4 than you did #1. Perhaps #4 is actually your favorite song of the moment? I don't know. But, in any case, I think that you did some things right and some things not-so-right.

Okay, with the shameless pointing out of how much I love the oldies, let's get on with the actual critique. I think that you relied a little TOO much on the videos to make your point for you. I especially feel this way about the Asher Roth description, where you basically told us to go check out the lyrics for ourselves, instead of pointing out exactly what makes the lyrics so powerful. There were some genuinely enjoyable aspects to your entry, particularly the "It's My Party" description. You definitely had some positives in this entry. But I think that you let the YouTube clips do too much of the talking.

Whoa. You want to talk about a ****ing essay? Holy crap. It almost resembles how much I write for my year-enders, but without the presentation to go along with it. But there's a difference between writing an essay that drones on and on and an essay that actually ensnares the reader right off the bat. Your description for "Dark Paradise" COMPLETELY won me over. It was the perfect combination of feelings of the song itself and personal experience. You kept the momentum up with each subsequent entry and related EVERY song to a personal experience and how the song affected you personally. Some may see this as a long, LONG entry. I see it as a strong reflection of the self.

This month I'm teaching an pre-intermediate course of English and I used to feel very nervous as I still commited some mistakes when I spoke. Nevertheless, I realized that if I show them confidence, that wouldn't be much of a problem as long as they know that I know about the language.
You could easily make a book with all your favorite songs from all year - a BIG book. Most of the times, quantity doesn't mean quality, but it's nice to see exceptions like this one. I enjoyed reading this. First place without a doubt.

I just see what the songs are about and why they're good songs. I also thought that, like Vulps, you let the majority of the songs do the talking. #1 and #3 both felt like solid descriptions, and, if all of the entries had been of that quality, we'd be talking about a top entry. I just felt that the overall package could have been a little better.

I don't even have to listen to the songs to get an idea of why the songs are such great ones to you, and that's always a plus. The presentation itself was a little lacking, but you did a great job of describing the songs, while also adding something different to the equation with your actual descriptions. I will admit, I laughed a little when I read the final description. In a good way, don't worry!

First, let me say that the single covers were a great touch and made the presentation all the better for it. There were a couple of faults to be found here, however. The first has to do with basic music knowledge. One thing that I like to do when planning my own year-ender is doing background checks on artists, just to make sure that my info is correct. It's not something that just anyone can do, admittedly, but it's a great asset. Why do I bring this up? Because Gotye is not a band. He's a solo artist. Admittedly, that's a minor quibble, though. What isn't as much of a minor quibble is that I also thought that the first two descriptions were a bit too similar. "So-and-so is the follow-up/second single. What I like about this is that...", etc. But you did describe why you liked all of the songs, so that's a positive. Not great, but not terrible, either. Be glad that I wasn't judging you for opinion statements, though, because I go apoplectic when someone says that the Glee version of ANY song was "better than the original".

I found a couple of flaws in your entry. The first is that you, like some of the other entries this go-around, started off fine and then got progressively less detailed as you went along. The descriptions went from solid-in-length (#1 and #2) to about two lines (#5). Admittedly, it can be hard to keep up that momentum all the way through, but that's why I try to recommend that people start from the bottom and then work their way to the top. Momentum is key. And while you said that you tend not to get emotionally connected to music, I also, for the most part, didn't see anything that told me why one of the songs was such a good song, or what the song was about, or what the song sounded like. I got none of that. There were a few personal notes, but that was about it. Okay, but unspectacular.

This moment reminds me when I was in a play in school, and I was supposed to cry for the scene, so I took a case of mint gum that was just emptied and smelled heavily of the mint, and blew in it. The air rushed back up to my eyes and I started crying just before I went on stage.
