TeenVogue.com: Bridgit Shines On October's Cover; Explains Why She Got Signed Under Hollywood Records
You may have seen her beautiful smile and a blonde her on Good Luck Charlie, the famous and popular Disney show, but from last year, people recognizes her more on the streets, and that's just because of her beautiful, powerful and strong voice, and cute songs. Bridgit's first album, Hello My Name Is..., got a lot of great and positive reviews, as well as Bridgit. People compared her voice to Demi Lovato's, who is great friend of Bridgit by the way, and Carly Rae Jepsen's, who had one of the biggest hits last year, and this year, Bridgit is coming with her new single, Light Of You (available on iTunes on 10/1), but this time, as she says herself, she might get her second hit, after her well known debut single, Ready Or Not. She could had another hit, with a Hurricane, but that just didn't happened. Bridgit exclusevely, for the first time explains, why she has quit Hollywood Records and why she thinks they ruined her debut album.
Interviewer: This year, you're coming back with a new single, Light Of You, and a new label behind your back, Indigo Records, and you also can be another U.S. hit for you. Why are you thinking like that?
Bridgit: Well, I actually don't care about what place my singles or albums chart, it's just I do care when they can chart pretty high by themselves, without even a promotion, but someone has to mess the release dates and everything involved with a single.
Interviewer: By saying 'someone', you mean 'Hollywood Records', am I right?
Bridgit: Actually, yes, you are right. I think I've quit Hollywood Records for good, because that label was no good for me, they used to mess up release dates, they didn't booked me any promo on TV shows, or even didn't sent out my singles to the radios, so my music wasn't heard, and that's why I thought 'I can't let them mess up everything once again with the album two', and knowing Hollywood Records, that's impossible. So I said goodbye, I'm done to them, and then Indigo Records offered me really good deal with them, so I signed it.
Interviewer: How did they messed up your record?
Bridgit: They leaked it, someone from the label leaked it, because nothing was stolen. Everyone in the label heard the album before it's release, even the janitors and cleaners, they had an access to my album, so it wasn't a big surprise when I woke up in the morning and saw, that the whole Twitter is talking about my album one month before it's release.
Interviewer: Wow, that must have been a shock for you, when you saw it...
Bridgit: It was a big big shock for me when I saw my whole album just hanging out on YouTube, but a month later I realized, that it wasn't my fault, it wasn't that person's who leaked it fault, it was actually Hollywood Record's fault, because they couldn't keep everything in one place, they had to mess it up.
Interviewer: Did you thought about everything before you signed the deal with Hollywood Records? Or you realized about it just later, after your record got leaked?
Bridgit: Yes, I've thought about it before I got signed to the label, I like to go to Twitter, and I noticed a couple of times trends like #DemiPleaseLeaveHWR and other ones, but I thought huh, why is that label so bad? Then I checked couple of fan articles about why that label is bad, and when I realized it, I was in shock and I didn't want to sign the deal, but then they forced me, saying that if you won't sign the deal, we are gonna cancel your show and you'll be screwed. And that was true, I wasn't very popular actress or singer, and I would have been done, so I signed the record deal.
Interviewer: That is so cruel! And why did they waited for Ready Or Not to become a hit before promoting it?
Bridgit: Well, when I released Ready Or Not, I was like, this label isn't bad at all, but then a month after I was thinking what I did so wrong that they aren't giving me any promo? Why aren't they booking me for performances? My voice is good enough I think for live performances, or after all, I could lip-sync. But they didn't gave me any promo. After two months, when Ready Or Not became a hit and had 40 million views on YouTube, they started giving me promo, like X Factor and other, and then I realized that they are actually milking me, they didn't want to investe in me when they weren't sure if I'll bring the any money, they only started promoting me when Ready Or Not started climbing on charts and iTunes. That was really sad, because I realized, that they're not trusting me.
