Well, that's the new trend in "online activism". Just like when BLM repeatedly crashed Bernie Sanders (and later Hillary Clinton), compared to barely even laying a finger on TRUMP or Carson, Rubio, etc. Or all the clearly fruitless "Trump protests" when the same people could have showed up and voted. It's this new generation of faux-activists who want to be seen doing trendy activism things like getting photographed protesting a politician who mostly agrees with your cause, joining a crowd in a highly publicized yet meaningless protest, or even just slamming "PROBLEMATIC!" celebs on twitter and waiting for those favs and retweets... But they don't want to actually go out there and deal with things the hard way, the way it was done in say, the Civil Rights movement or the LGBT rights movement.
Just look at the way people attack and shut down these celebs, instead of attempting to calmly educate them on why you find what they said objectionable. Like, I'm pretty sure half the people slamming Ellen Pompeo probably have a GOP mayor or governor taking away their rights as we speak, yet they neither know about it, nor probably even know the name of said representatives in the first place. This is why we're getting ****ed.
