I honestly think it was because Demi was dabbling into drugs & alcohol. Selena didn't feel comfortable. I also think Selena tried to get her help and Demi took it out on her.
Then Selena got popular & people noticed her more so Demi became jealous of her friendships with others (Taylor Swift) and Selena's success.
Remember in early 2010 every time they were mentioned in an interview they always said "I'll always love her no matter what". Demi would be a bitch about it honestly while Selena would seem upset every time she was asked. It got so worse that they both put that on the questions not to ask list. Demi guienely cared for Selena and vise versa. Near summer 2010 Demi knew about her going to shoot Monte Carlo in a live chat. They cared near the end but never took the courage to rekindle their friendship until she went into treatment. BAM
