Is anyone even reading the lyrics the katy stans are posting?
Spit exceeds alot of lana's work. Look at the lyircs. My god, give katy some credit. she's insanely talented.
The lyrics I posted she wrote when she was THIRTEEN.

how are the lyrics speaking for themselves? It's not a concept album. What Biblical references? If I'm so incompetent and ill-informed, surely a stan will able to to fill me in?

Yes, it has absolutely nothing to do with the theme of the album. It doesn't fit. It's an odd song. A filler. But with good lyrics. Esther- a biblical character. The phoenix, crown, etc. are all metaphors. This is the most I can simplify it. You either get it or you don't.

Her label said in an interview that TD was meant to be catchy and radio friendly, and have you listened to the radio? 90% of the hooks are utter ****.

So no you sound ridiculous and ignorant.

Music is an art. Fan reviews are irrelevant for a reason. There is nothing ignorant or ridiculous about a community of critics reviewing an album at a much higher quality than you will ever be able to. Stop trying to downplay the importance of reviews. None of our faves can escape critical backlash or a bad review. It's not a big deal, and like you said, as long as you enjoy the music, you should be happy.

I just wish people could see what you're saying, but because of the music she puts out, like Teenage Dream, the way she is portrayed is her fault. There really are lots of amazing songs deep in the back of the Katy Hudson/unreleased vault.

Ah, so we come to it at last...the moment where the Katy stan accepts that his idol is mediocre because she must make money by dumbing herself down for the (sadly underestimated) general public. It's too bad she's never shown any evidence of what could've been if she hadn't decided to sacrifice her artistry for cheap hooks and empty words...and Onen, those lyrics suck.

Now you're contradicting yourself. You just said TD had some latent meaning, so what is it? Seriously, I want to know. I've listened to TD in full and have liked songs in the past but in no way do I see something beyond bubblegum pop. No shade intended, I honestly want to know
|
Some songs do have meaning, but this album was made to be radio friendly and that's where the basic, generic hooks come from. I'm not going to be delusional and say TD is groundbreaking, because overall it is a basic album, but that doesn't mean there aren't lyrics with meaning.

The generic songs on TD =/= her entire discography. She is an extremely talented lyricist.

All right, I understand.
But please realize this is one song out of an entire album. One song, an album does not make.
For the most part, I think we can agree, her songs are catchy and pretty manifest-contentesque. A lot of surface meaning, not too deep.
Not that there's too much wrong with that

at people saying those lyrics suck. I cannot fathom. That is the most obsurd thing I've ever heard. those lyrics are deeply spiritual and intellectual. lana could never come up with something so spiritual. I dont get people.

But since when have Fan Reviews been irrelevant. Positive fan reviews = more sales. You think if 21 had horrible reviews from the fans of her first album and a few positive reviews from these music critics it would be half as successful? Like what are you even saying right now? You're actually trying to say Critics opinions are more important for some reason.. and stop acting like you know everything about the world of music, everyone here understands music is an art. Hence why Lana and Katy are both called Artists. Critics can make their opinions sound fancy i think that's what your trying to say? But it doesn't make their opinion worth more than anyone else's.

Fan reviews are completely irrelevant when discussing the quality of an album. A fan of any artist is more inclined to write a biased, favorable review. Second of all, why are more sales important? In a world of LMFAO, that should be irrlevant. I am saying that critic's opinions are ultimately more important. They have more experience reviewing and rating music than any of the members of this forum for the most part.

According to what you've been saying about all critics being high quality reviewers all of their reviews should match up if they all know what " good music" sounds like? Or are you saying that critics simply give their opinion chose one?
