In Starring role I always thought she was saying "you'd like my dad, you'd get on well" which would infer that the boyfriend she dislikes is a lot like her dad in a not so good way, but apparently she says "you love my dad, you get on well" which is less spiteful in the direction of her dad...Don't really know what it means in that case though.

I took it as meaning that the boyfriend perhaps comes across as a typical 'nice guy' because even her Dad likes him but then as the rest of the song details, he isn't as great as he seems.

Yeah, she has mentioned her dad in Seventeen / Starring Role / Scab & Plaster / some Mermaid VS Sailor songs. Not entirely sure about Seventeen though... I wonder what happened between her and her dad.
