Whitney Houston emerges and claim: 'I'm a Legend' (People)

Whitney Houston is a legend. Unfortunately, she's one of those legends that has had her time, and the legend is what she once was and did. She'll never be able to sing well ever again. No matter how much she tries to recover, the drugs have damaged her vocals so much, they're beyond any real recovery. I think she first damaged her voice in the mid-90's when she got some vocal infections, but tried to sing on top of them and it didn't do her any favours. The difference in vocal quality between "The Bodyguard" soundtrack of 1992 and "Waiting To Exhale" soundtrack of 1995 is quite noticable, but she seemed to keep it steady up until the late 90's. The 2000's saw her voice really go downhill as the drugs took hold, and in her last album she sounds breathless and at least 30 years older than she really is. Also, I hear she had to record it in loads of small bits to gather a good run of vocals for each song, where as she used to be able to cut the vocals for a song in just a few full takes. I love Whitney and still listen to her music, old and new, but I'm not about to say she's going to be able to make another comeback. If she does, it's wont last long 'cause the spirit may be willing, but her body just won't allow it and it's such a shame. She now sings as if she's saying sentences, quickly and in short bursts... I honestly think she needs to retire from the music business and find something else to do.

Well, thinking about it , I think only Madonna is the legend among (Mariah , Janet,Whitney, Celine).
Mariah is well-known , she made classics and sold millions ,but she still didn't have that impact on our culture. Same with Whitney & Janet.
I can name more songs by Hilary duff then Celine Dion,She is really not type of the artist that EVERYONE on the planet knows about. Legend is too much for her.
Madonna & Michael jackson are the only legends in pop music , everyone on planet earth knows about them , from our grandfathers to their grandchildren. All their songs have been playing for years , everyone tried to dance like them ,dress like them. Those are how legends supposed to be. IMO

I respect legends but she really need to get 100% clean from drugs and than make public interviews. She seems borderline unstable.

I disagree with this comment! Whitney is a legend. Mostly every single American Idol attempts to sing songs by Whitney or every girl wanted or wants to sing like Whitney did (i.e. too young too old looking JoJo).

Nat Cole King isn't a legend because people tried to dress & dance like him. M & MJ are not only legends but they are Pop Culture icons. Madonna, Michael, Mariah, Whitney, Celine, & Janet are all legends.

Celine Dion is def. the biggest female legend out of the five. She sold the most, her albums have never flopped, My Heart Will Go On will unfortunately never be forgotten by any of us, and she can "live" off of touring. She's consistent. She's the only one who can and will last forever. But MJ is a bigger legend than her. He's our Elvis.

Madonna is much more popular esp. among younger people. But Celine Dion is consistent and she sold the most. I personally don't care for her music but she is the biggest legend. She has had a "steady" Las Vegas show going since 2003. That is very hard to do & I don't think anyone else has done it.

I think besides from scoring tons of hit singles, and whole crap, only madonna and michael... personally i think mj is a little slighly bigger talkin' 'bout the global thingy. come on, he pisses out of the vase and the whole world then knows it, and come on, WHO doesn't know any song of his?... i don't like madonna but she is also a great artist.
Still wishing mj gets his fat ass outta the couch and releases sth.
