The thing is you overthink it and thats why you wouldnt get one direction. They are young, fun and they make feel good music and that works for them, in the UK its not only the teenage girls who love them. Parents even love 1D because they come across as innocent and just fun.
You dont have to be intense to sell records. And this whole boyband = untalented is just beyond stupid...... The Beatles were a boyband, in the UK we have a boyband called Take That who started out at the age of 1D and they are pop veterans in this country and the frontman is known as one of the greatest songwriters of the UK and the Queen appointed him to organise her Diamond Jubilee concert. Boybands and credibility can go together and have done so in the past.
