Is there room for Madonna's highly underrated vocals? *don't throw me eggs*
A lot of people might think i'm reaching (maybe i am) but i think "Ray of Light" is such a difficult song to sing (even for Madonna, who KILLED IT live just one time at Oprah. ).
Queen Natasha agrees.
1:07 - 1:24 & 2:23 - 2:29
This actually does reserve some response. Because the note that you're talking about - and that Natasha was talking about - a good seventy five percent of the girls and boys in pop music today would keel over attempting it.
DIL Live @ The Beyonce Experience (everyone in the room can tell you it was flawless)
Not to mention the version she sang at Divas live!
And death at you agreeing with the children who've never even studied anything about vocals, let alone Beyonces vocals, I guarantee you no one who has viewed this thread can hit that note from Countdown I posted. #fact
And yes for you saying there is more than hitting notes, that is EXACTLY why Beyonce is better, you're proving my very point. The 90s Trinity are known for their notes sans Whitney, Mariah is famous for whistling to the general public as you put it, and do NOT get me started on Celine.
That X-Factor performance - wherein she showed Alexandra who's boss - is one of my favorite Bey performances of all time. Never has her full range - emotionally and vocally - been displayed like that. Just gorgeous. Should have posted that.
It is more to Bey's credit that she's managed to work to improve her voice rather than going, you know, the Xtina route.
Of course!
But - and here's where I might get in trouble with certain people - I think, when she was younger, her voice was merely good. Then it became better than good. Now it's truly great.
But, at here's what Playboy was getting at - Bey at 20/21/22 was not seeing Whitney, Mariah or Celine at 20/21/22. Am I getting that right?

!!!!!!!!!!
This is why you are my good sis because YOU KNOW!!! Everything you wrote was the gotdamn truth!!! *throws shoes like Patti LaBelle*

Of course, one can go the opposite way and say - especially in the case of Mariah - that Bey is a better vocalist since she rose from humble beginnings, vocally speaking, to living in a pristine mansion. Whereas Mariah went from the top of a castle, vocally speaking, to a two story house that's in constant threat of repossession.
Not at all and yall can have that. But it has to be an insecurity because in every thread that I post in, its always some Bey stan trying to prove that she's the Queen of Music and that just isn't so. She doesn't have the receipts to back up HALF the claims that yall make. Its just unbelievable But dew dew!!
Well you've given yourself a reputation as a Beyonce hater here. And she has ALL the receipts, I wouldnt lie to you sistren.

Right!!! And then Playboy has the nerve to praise people who lost their voices before age 40 all while trying to convince me that Bey has something to prove.

I think the reason that he hasn't been warned yet - along with the fact that you all (thankfully) haven't reported him yet - is that he is NOT a Bey hater. He's been posting for years, and for YEARS was the biggest Bey STAN this site had ever seen. He may be ABRASIVE, but no more abrasive than you or me or Sinny - certainly no more abrasive than roc la familia.

She had to show Simon who was boss!

NO, I TOTALLY agree with that, I know this and I was trying to say this. Mariah, Whit, Celine in their primes (20-25) were MILES better than Beyonce was at that age as overall vocalists.
BUT, im sure everyone can admit that Beyonce (25-30+) is MILES ahead of all of them in all departments of singing, that was my point. They can be praised for their debut voices but they declined, she can be praised for her growth.

But Beyonce has NEVER been to the vocal heights that the Trinity have reached. Bey is 30 years old and doesn't have 1 performance ON PAR with the vocal greats. She is definitely in her own league and reps today's generation well but she's no match for Chaka, Patti, Natalie, Whitney, Rachelle, Lisa, Regina, Anita, Barbra or any other vocal great of the last 50 years.
It doesn't matter if they lost their voices.... because we only compare at people's primes. Bey just got great, if we compare her life's vocals to someone like Whitney then she'd be TOAST!!! Simple as that.

Which is truly more impressive? Growth!
Whitney was 22 when her first album dropped. Like do you even know WTF you are talking about? She was 30 in 1993 which is the year of the Bodyguard. Bey at 30 could NEVER give a vocal like I Have Nothing or Run To You. We ain't even going to mention the vocal STANDARD of all power ballads. hjdjdfnjfnadfj
I seriously can't with sats. I try to give you a break and you just insert foot time and time again.

Yeah, not Whitney. Whitney at 30 had The Bodyguard Soundtrack.
But Beyonce has NEVER been to the vocal heights that the Trinity have reached.
So true.
It's hard to rank her because she doesn't dominate in either of the main categories, power and variety.
She isn't at the heights of the power scale, nor does she have the broadest range and variety.
She definitely isn't as good or better as the former girls at the same age. What a ridiculous claim.
Her vocal is so overrated because she has the background of Katy, Rihanna, Britney, and so forth to compare to whereas Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Anita, and the other girls were constant pitted against each other.
Trust, if Beyoncé were a star in the late 80s and mid 90s coinciding with the peak of the vocal juggernauts, no one would pay her any attention.
Is Barbra Streisand ALWAYS ignored in discussions about vocals?
It feels like she has no place in them at all.
Hands down, the GREATEST DIVA of them all. She's won all the major awards, if I remember correctly. She will always have a place in this discussion because she BIRTHED Celine Dion, Leona Lewis and the other vocalists of their style. She's like the white Aretha.

She is the white Aretha! Or the Jewish Judy/Liza.
Speaking of Barbra's very clear descendants ... watched Smash yet?
It's kind of like Bey wasn't born naturally with a voice as special as Christina, or power as immense as Kelly.
But she, by way of experience and talent, has GREATLY surpassed one of them.
I wonder which one?
It makes me holler when people go crazy over Beyoncé her vocal.
They actually think she is the greatest voice or all time or something. She's not even top 20.

YESS!!!!!!! Katharine is a BEAST!! This show is perfect for her voice..... I loved that last song she sang at the end of the pilot. I gotta download it. I really hope Columbia doesn't **** this up for her
